pmsl, tis already too blardy late!
I called my dd2 Eleanora and obviously its looonng abd people shorten it.
Nora I can handle-its cute and suits her chubby little face but I cannot stand Ellie and Ella which is the obvious shortening for most people.

I have contemplated changing her name before she turns one and quite liking Nora thought I would make it Leonora thus eliminating the Ellie Ella etc.

Am I crazy?

I would just go for one of her mn but you will all think its even more cruel than Nora!!

Yes you are crazy. If you don't like Ellie or Ella then just say so. People don't have to shorten names you know! I have always been known by my full name outside of my immediate family. I have an unusual name which can have a very common shortening, or a very unusual one. Family use the unusual one, everyone else uses my full name. If everyone is calling her Nora and she likes that then that's probably what she will want to be called. Once she is old enough to say hello my name is "Nora" or "Eleanora" then people should not call her anything else (unless they are very rude).

QueenBhannae · 16/07/2008 18:37

okay maybe I am being crazy but people are rude and I am quite forceful in stating her name to people.
Whats really tipped me over the edge is the HV calls her it every time despite correction and the surgery and hospital have her down as Eleanor despite correction several times.

I will be fine and get over it lol

I like leonora - I don't know why some people are being so cruel. I( knew a lovely little girl called Nora

nooka · 16/07/2008 18:52

I know. People seem to think that names should be shortened. I've nothing against nicknames or shortenings (my children both commonly use their short versions) but unless you have chosen a really stupid name/spelling then if you say "her name is Eleanora" then they should not say "that's lovely, I'll call her Ellie then shall I"? (or variations of). My sympathies! It should get easier once she can speak for herself - I always said "not xxie, full name" when people tried and usually that worked (also not responding to the name they were trying was quite effective!)

blowsy · 16/07/2008 18:58

My Godmother's name is Honoria, shortened to Nora.

nickeldime · 16/07/2008 20:15

Eleonora, Norina, Noreen, Noirin, Leonora, Eleanor, all typically can be shortened to Nora.
