Baby names- help!

This is my first time on one of these blogs. I would really like other people's opinion on some of the baby names we are considering as some are a little unusual. I already have 2 other children, a girl called Maia Isabel (pronounced like Maya) and a little boy called Lucas Paul. My DH (who is of Asian origin) and I have totally different taste in names so tend to disagree++ about it! Honest opinions please on the following!

Girls:
Matilda
Eve/ Evie/ Evie-Mae
Cecilica/ Cecily
Livia
Viola

Boys(v tricky as DH dosen't like anything traditional/ too popular and I do)!:
Casper
Reuben
Nico/ Nicolas
Clem (short for Clement)
Max
Francis

Any other suggestions welcomed.
Many thanks!

FlirtyThirty · 15/07/2008 16:56

Right...from your list...

Girls:
Matilda - nice name. love the book. getting very popular. nice with your daughter's name too.

Eve/ Evie/ Evie-Mae - not keen on these, especially don't like hyphenated names. Also think Mae is too close to Maia

Cecilica/ Cecily - like Cecily.

Livia - don't like contractions. Lavinia maybe? Or better still Olivia. Or Lydia even?

Viola - not keen.

Boys(v tricky as DH dosen't like anything traditional/ too popular and I do)!:
Casper - the ghost?
Reuben - not keen
Nico/ Nicolas - ok
Clem (short for Clement) - no
Max - best on the list by far! cool name.
Francis - not my taste.

I like Matilda and Evie but would want it Evie May.
I like Nicolas but not the rest. Prefer Julian to Jules or Julius.

Oh dear, I have been forgetful- blame it on the hormones. I forgot to add another of my favourite girl's names, Eliza which is classic but not common here.

OP posts:
AbbeyA · 15/07/2008 18:51

Eliza is lovely.

janeite · 15/07/2008 18:52

Girls:
Matilda - yes, it's lovely

Eve/ Evie/ Evie-Mae - don't like hyphenated names but I like Eve or Eva; less fond of Evie

Cecilica/ Cecily - lovely

Livia - lovely - and not made up at all; it's Roman

Viola - nice but wouldn't choose it myself - it's not a contraction of Violet though; it's in Twelth Night

Boys:
Casper - nope, don't like it

Reuben - bit common now I think

Nico/ Nicolas - don't like Nico; not fond of Nicholas

Clem (short for Clement) - hate it, sorry

Max - nice enough

Francis - don't like it much sorry.

Milo/Jules - don't like

So, overall - yes to the girls, no to the boys!

singyswife · 15/07/2008 18:57

Love Livia. Love it, love it, love it. Is it an unusual take on a common name. I Love it. Casper and Nico for boys.

GreatGooglyMoogly · 15/07/2008 19:24

What about Jude?

Hulababy · 15/07/2008 20:25

Girls:

Matilda - I love this name; in my top 3 names if I have another
Eve/ Evie/ Evie-Mae - Lovely; friend's DD is Evie-May and it is so pretty
Cecilica/ Cecily - not keen
Livia - why not Olivia, that is far nicer IMO
Viola - not keen

Other girls names I really like are Martha and Florence.

Boys:

Casper - not keen, reminds me of the ghost
Reuben - not my choice but ok
Nico/ Nicolas - not for me
Clem (short for Clement) - no, Clem for me would mean a girl (Clementine)
Max - from you list, I prefer this one
Francis - not keen

Boys nmaes I ind hard but like Charles (Charlie), William, Edward, Joseph, Oliver, etc.

tommiles001 · 16/07/2008 07:38

Girls: I'd go for Eve or Evie, short, sweet classic names making a comeback: Eve Evie

Boys: for pretty much the same consideration, Max
