no i dont care if you like the name or not, i am not asking for opinions like that and will ignore any!

For those that know a Dominic, what sort of things does dominic get shortend to? Dom? Nick? Domi?

If you know a dominic, what do they say about their name?

My DH is Dominic everyone calls him Dom apart from me when he does something silly in which case he is DomiNIC!! I think it is a good name and it suits him. He says he didn't ahve any strong feelings about it either way when growing up. At school he got "big, bad Dom" and "Con-dom" which isn't too bad I suppose.

Some people do seem to mis-read it though. The most memorable time being when we were in a church when he was to be a godfather and the vicar asked Demonic to step forward!! Talk about a freudian slip!

Oh I love the name! Would have used it for ds2 but dh has a friend called it (Dom for short as you were asking) and dh felt it might be a bit weird to call ds2 "after" him iyswim.

I know 3 boys called Dominic and I haven't heard anyone shortening it for any of them....

Dommy Wommy Woo

SoMuchToBits · 10/07/2008 19:48

Usually Dom or Nic/Nick. But every single one I have known /known of has been from a catholic family. So if you are not catholic, don't be surprised if people think you are, if you call your ds Dominic.

Quattrocento · 10/07/2008 19:49

I know two Dominics

Neither is disposed to have his name shortened

From this scientific survey I have concluded that Dominics tend to be formal people.

Also I have found out that if you stick Dominic through a spell checker you get demonic as a suggestion

justageek · 10/07/2008 19:49

ha people think i am catholic...they would soon be put straight on that one. Sorry catholic people

butterflybessie, yours is the best version of it yet ;)

my Dominic is a scruffy, laid-back atheist from a CofE family so doesn't fit the stereotype. You're right though, the older generation in my family still asks me years later if he is a Catholic.

Know of a couple of Dominics, both get shortened to Dom. I quite like the name.
