Gwendoline

Honest thoughts on the name Gwendoline? She would be Gwen day to day.

I like the Welsh origin of the name. We are Welsh, but not Welsh speakers and we live in England now. I prefer the Welsh spelling Gwendolen but I think the pronunciation would confuse people.

I grew up with Gwendoline Mary Lacey too before anyone mentions that 😂But I think it's an obscure enough reference not to bother me.

Gwendoline Mary Lacey is my favourite MT character!

I had a Welsh Sec D called Gwendolyn. She was brilliant, so I've got a soft spot for the name. I don't love that spelling though.

Shoobadadoo · Yesterday 20:07

I really love it

fiorentina · Yesterday 20:09

My grandmothers middle name. I do love it but not as much shortened to Gwen..

SuperSharpShooter · Yesterday 20:10

Its lovely! Any and all spellings.
Id love to meet a baby Gwen 😍

My Cornish granny’s name… I love it 🩷

Daughter went through grammar school with a Gwendolyn. She was the star of any musical production so talented went on to stage school

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · Yesterday 20:37

Absolutely love it!

LumpkinPumpkin · Yesterday 20:38

I do automatically think of Malory Towers… but Gwen IS lovely. And I think it’s probably a fairly obscure reference these days anyway!

MoonlightAndDadDancing · Yesterday 20:39

Personally I prefer Gwen or Gwenllian. I know a Gwen… she is Welsh living in England and in her 20s. It’s a lovely name.

XMissPlacedX · Yesterday 20:41

Love it, love Gwen and Gwenny too

LemonPuppyPorkChop · Yesterday 20:41

I prefer Gwendolen, but it’s a lovely name with any spelling. I just think Gwendoline risks people pronouncing it Gwendo- LYNE, final syllable rhyming with ‘twine’.

Yupstillhere · Yesterday 20:42

It's a lovely name, unusual but not too different.

ilovepixie · Yesterday 20:42

Makes me think of Malory Towers too.

SuperSharpShooter · Yesterday 20:43

I don't know Malory Towers 🤷
But Gwen Stacy is very cool!

Aberdyfi · Yesterday 20:44

Gwendy - fabulous!

StrongandNorthern · Yesterday 20:44

Love it!

mathanxiety · Yesterday 20:44

I prefer the Gwendolen spelling, or Gwendolene if you want the -een ending sound.

I think the Gwendoline spelling might end up being pronounced with a 'line' ending as opposed to 'leen'.

Gwen is a sweet abbreviation.

Imisscoffee2021 · Yesterday 20:46

It's lovely as its elegant in its entirety but also works perfectly as Gwen. I know a Rosalind who goes by Rosie, love how fairytale one name is and how earthy the other.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · Yesterday 20:47

I like the Gwendolyn spelling.

Also like the name Gwenno which I see a lot in my part of wales. Not pronounced like Gwen oh though. It’s o as in on

Eta - also Gwennan

angelasim · Yesterday 21:05

Our Dear Gwendoline Mary is all I can think of! I like the full name more than Gwen.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · Yesterday 21:20

The Malory Towers associate too strong - she’d need a sheet of golden hair, a fussy attentive mother and governess and be prone to befriending the assumed rich and preferably beautiful. Hard to live up to. Or down to.

TheeNotoriousPIG · Yesterday 21:30

I quite like it, along with Gwennan and Gwenno. I think I'd get over the Gwendoline Mary Lacey associations if I met a person called Gwendoline or Gwen!

Sunbringer · Yesterday 21:31

Gorgeous

RobertaFirmino · Yesterday 23:27

I find it really difficult to say, the Gw feels so incongruous. That's just me though.
