Unsure about boys name

The name we like is Arthur Thomas, he has 2 older sisters called iyla Elizabeth and Skye Michele. All the second names are family names so I won't be changing that name.

I've got 2 questions, first do the names go together like do they flow nicely. I think so but my boyfriend is still not sure.

Second question is how popular is Arthur, I haven't met anyone in person with the name but I see it everywhere online.

Also is Arthur Thomas too cowboy-ish it sounds like a cowboy name to me, which I don't mind, I just want to know if anyone gets this vibe from the name.

I guess that's 3 questions..thanks in advance

I like it! I've met a couple of Arthur's but not loads, so, I guess I'd say it was quirky and a but unusual but not totally out there. I definely think it goes with Thomas. I don't think I get Cowboy vibes! Maybe slightly Peaky Blinders vibes, because there's a Tommy and an Arthur in that - but not in a bad way.

How about Arran Thomas? Iyla, Skye and Arran sounds perfect.

Arlanymor · 29/10/2026 12:22

You're not going to go with a Scottish name to match the girls? Although Iyla only sounds Scottish I guess.

Excellentsausages · 29/10/2026 15:33

Arthur has been a top 10 name in England and Wales since 2018 and popular before that. I don't think it's quirky or unusual- I do really like the name. It is popular so if that really bothers you I'd choose something else - but even popular names these days aren't super popular as there is so much name variety. More like 2 per school rather than 2 per year sort of thing.

Arthur Thomas flows fine.

I don't get cowboy vibes at all. Cowboys are American and Arthur just doesn't feel like the archetypal American name to me. I'd expect a cowboy to be called Jesse or Wyatt or Earl or something.

Sparklinggreen · 29/10/2026 16:53

No cowboy vibes at all. Love Arthur but not keen on any nn like Arty or Art

Calliopespa · 29/10/2026 21:13

I don't think it is remotely cowboy-ish OP.

I like Arthur and think it flows really well with Thomas. I'm less sure it flows well with your girl names, but maybe you don't mind that?

it sounds like they're sponsored by Visit Scotland

Mulledjuice · 29/10/2026 21:16

Arthur Thomas isn't remotely cowboyish - King Arthur of Camelot is the reference most people would think of. It flows nicely

AutobanTicket · 29/10/2026 21:18

Iyla and Skye sound Scottish as a pp said. So maybe something along those lines? Struan, Fergus, Angus, Magnus, Rory?

HugoThatway · 29/10/2026 21:21

Shame you're fixed on Thomas. Arthur Daly flows well.

Giraffehaver · 29/10/2026 22:36

Isn't he a character on Emmerdale? Thomas as surname? You cant move for Arthurs here.Tbh I'd choose something more Scottish eg Hamish

Arthur Thomas is perfectly handsome.
Others ..
Alistair Thomas
Bruce Thomas
Roger Thomas

EmeraldSlippers · 30/10/2026 06:46

It's the 4th most popular boys' name at the moment. I know of various.
I like the name but to me it's not in the same style as your girls' names. Arthur is firmly in the classic 'old man come cool', whereas I'm not getting that vibe from the girls. Maybe that doesn't matter to you though.

AnywayYouLike · 30/10/2026 07:32

Arthur is a very old man name to me and kind of ugly sounding. I prefer James or maybe any other name, just not Arthur.

HPFA · 30/10/2026 07:38

I agree about the old man thing but my grandfather was an Arthur so that explains it.

Arthur Thomas is a perfectly good choice which won't get him teased, he won't ever have to spell it out and it won't label him as coming from a particular class or time period. Which is all that matters.

Mumofgirls2017 · 30/10/2026 13:20

iyla and skye very different vibe to Arthur would have imagined brother to be Logan/ Lewis/ Mason/ Harrison/ Finley/ Liam/ Blake etc

however I prefer Arthur and is nice with Thomas so depends how much it bothers you

arthur is v popular in England, I’ve met 8
