Boy name help for baby 3

namehelpplea · 28/10/2026 19:26

We’ve found out we are having a little boy. We already have Theodore (Theo) and Isabelle (Izzy). But are struggling for a third name we can both agree on.
I love Oliver (Ollie) but we are unlikely to be able to use it (was a significant partner for my sister for nearly 10 years and not the nicest of splits). My partner likes James but I’m less keen.
Help!

We nearly nicknamed Theo but it didn’t stick. I would love it for baby 3 but worried that people would think it was odd to have a Theo and a Teddie.

I think it is a bit. Teddy is a diminutive of both.

It is a bit like having and Elizabeth and a Lizzie, even if the Lizzie is short for Lisette.

What about Henry?

We do like Henry and it was on our list for our first. But what put us off in the end was nickname wise. I’m not keen on Hen, my husband isn’t a fan of Harry. I grew up with a name with no option for a nickname - think like Jane (not my name but hopefully you get the idea). For me it is important that they have an option to use their name or a shortened version.

I know I’m being difficult and this is why we are stuck.

We also already have lots of nephews so it excludes some other really lovely names unfortunately

What about Hal? I quite like it. Makes me think of Dickens and Henry VIII: "Bluff King Hal"!

I also really like Harold to be honest. Great old name.

Alexander - Xander
Nathaniel - Nate
Patrick - Paddy
Rupert - Roo
Reuben - Roo
Thomas (prefer full name over the shortening)

if you like Henry I wouldn’t dismiss it just because of there not being a shortening. It’s doesn’t need one. James is the same really (well there is Jamie or Jimmy but longer sounding).

Well you can but there’s a risk that Theodore will start being called Teddy rather than Theo at some point and then you have two Teddys.
