Uncommon but not overused vintage girl names?

ferio23 · Today 08:31

Me (21,F) and my husband (25,M) are having our first child. I'm due in February so I have some more time to choose. My husband and I want a vintage name, we don't want a overused name. We want a simple vintage name that is easy to spell that is still vintage.

go on the office of national statistics and look up the baby names data.

you used to be able to see the history of name use. last i looked mine wasn’t used for a couple of years at all!!

it used to be quite interesting. presumably that info is still produced.

I really like Ethel and I’m sure it’s due a revival. It’s just a soft and pretty name, like a cross between Edith and Isobel but it seems to get a lot of hate on here so I’d assume it’s uncommon at the moment!

I’d also consider Violet, but I’m not sure where that is in the popularity ratings at the moment.

I’d suggest going for a walk round your local old graveyard - there will be plenty of inspiration there, and some are surprisingly unusual!

@Pemba my son goes to school with an Alan. Needless to say, he's the only one in the WHOLE school. I like to think his parents are way ahead of the curve 😊
