What do people think of Fenella snd anyone have experience of knowing one or having one? Any difficulties with it.’ I did see someone online say they get called Vanilla !

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Wasn't there a Fenella who used to present Playschool?

Ribenaberry12 · 20/10/2026 20:53

I like it. And if she wants to change it up as she gets older she could be a Fen, a Nell or an Ella.

You might be thinking of Floella Benjamin?

RatherBeOnVacation · 20/10/2026 21:10

I know a 19 year old Fenella. She absolutely hates it and goes by Ella (and has done since she was 9). I think it’s a lovely name though 😂😂😂

Floella sounds like a flu vaccine brand name, or a type of sanitary pad.

ETA I think I know which presenter you mean though, and she was lovely.

My two year old is called Fenella. I still love it and she calls herself either Bella or Fen. Didn't quite realise how much people would struggle to pronounce it though!

CanYouComeUp · 20/10/2026 21:28

Several school friends. Nice name. Not over used easy to pronounce and spell

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 20/10/2026 21:30

I was at school with a Fenella. She was sort of wafty and very quiet.

Now when I hear the name Fenella I think of the sort of Edwardian girl who would be constantly fainting and dabbing at her eyes with a lace hanky.

Doubleskunk · 20/10/2026 21:30

Really pretty. Unusual, but not wacky, and pronounced as it’s spelt. And spelt as it’s pronounced.

Fionnula is lovely too.

Always think that sounds like a musical instrument with lots of strings.
The sort a girl called Fenella would play after dinner in Downton.

You’ll get middle aged people saying “bye bye little old lady” but just ignore us them

Are you Irish/scottish?

When I looked it up it said it was the anglicised form of Fionnuala, but I have to say as an Irish person I’ve never come across a single Fenella. It’s not listed in the baby name records here either which means it’s very rare.
Maybe it’s more popular in Scotland?

I know a Fenella, in her 60s - She's arty and a bit hippy, lovely person. I always think of Fenella Fielding from the film Carry on Screaming when I hear the name. It's unusual and quite pretty.

Did she come from the Bristol area? I went to school with a Fenella and I've often wondered how she is these days!

Fenella the Witch.

Chorlton and the wheelies.
Hello little ol' lady.

Exactly - winner winner chicken dinner

marblyarch · 20/10/2026 22:01

I prefer Nella

ExquisiteDecoration · 20/10/2026 22:07

No, Jilly Cooper character, 1970s, very dated, not for me.

Marycontrarygarden · 20/10/2026 22:34

Sounds like a cream for thrush...

cheapskatemum · 20/10/2026 22:34

Fenella Woolgar is the actress that comes to mind, although I remember Fenella Fielding too. It’s a lovely name.

MyArtfulGreySloth · 20/10/2026 22:36

I don’t like it, sorry.

Auroragirl · 20/10/2026 22:37

Love it . I think it’s a character in Jilly coopers book Rider where it’s shortened to Fen.
she’s a lively young kind character ( not raunchy)

Nofeckingway · 20/10/2026 22:38

Showing my age but unfortunately it reminds me of Frogmella from Waynetta Slob for their baby as it sounded egg🥚sotik .

Giraffehaver · 20/10/2026 22:38

I really love it

Imaginingdragonsagain · 20/10/2026 22:38

I know one- she’s lovely and it’s a beautiful name
