Baby name obsession

I really don’t seem to be able to get past the fact that I chose the wrong name for my daughter. She is daisy but I really feel her name should have been Mae. I wanted to change it when she was 6 weeks old but my husband didn’t agree and didnt want to confuse her siblings etc so we left it. She’s 10 months now and I can’t forget it. It feels like a big mistake. She’s also my last baby! Not sure what reassurance I’m looking for really just wanted to put it down somewhere!

My number one name is Daisy. I’ve spent a lot of years wishing I could call a daughter than but strongly vetoed by husband! It’s a lovely name.

SkaneTos · 17/09/2026 22:30

Daisy is a great name. Mae is a great name, too.
I don't have any advice, but I encourage you to search for other posts about baby name regret here on Mumsnet. There are many of them. You might find some good advice.

I wish you and your family all the best!

They’re both nice names. They’re a similar vibe and popularity, both easy to say and spell.

Don’t change it. Now you really will confuse everyone for no real purpose - a name is just a name, and in this case the potentially new one isn’t any better (or worse) than the old one.

It would be a lot of faff (mostly for your DD later In life) for zero benefit.

Daisy is wonderful. Call her Mae as a nickname.

MotherJessAndKittens · 17/09/2026 23:07

Daisy Mae sounds good so could you add it?

Copperoliverbear · 17/09/2026 23:10

Call her Daisy-Mae

Mandarinaduck · 17/09/2026 23:13

What would you like to happen, ideally?

Does your DH realise how strongly you feel about it?

What happened that you chose Daisy instead of Mae, and why did your husband disagree about changing it?

thisismeithinkorisit · 17/09/2026 23:14

Why do yo u think she's a May not a Daisy op? Can yo u articulate it? Daisy is a lovely pretty name, I think Mae sounds much harder as a name

I adore the name Daisy 😍 🌼 what a gorgeous name! It’s a real stand out name. Beautiful and different, you don’t meet a lot of daisies, it’s familiar and been around ages yet it still feels so fresh. Just perfect in my opinion.

Mae is also beautiful and classy

I personally don’t like them put together… but that would be an easy way to get the best of both worlds I guess and that’s just personal opinion..

if you really don’t think you can get over the way you feel though then I would say just change her name. It’s early days and it really won’t matter in the long run. We called our kids ‘baby’ at least 50% of the time for their first year anyways

CherryKerry · 17/09/2026 23:20

Keep Mae for a kitten or puppy in your future.

I never got to use a couple of names I loved, waiting to see if DH/DIL have kids in the offchance they might pick the names but if not, I'll use them for future pets.

EdgyBiscuit · 18/09/2026 00:00

Daisy is beautiful!

LivingTheDreamish · 18/09/2026 02:25

I also think Daisy is lovely (in case that helps). Does DH not like Mae or just doesn't want to change it?

Chamallo · 18/09/2026 09:54

Daisy is lovely! Much more interesting than Mae, but with the same happy practical feeling. Why do you want to change it?
Do you think it would help to lean into it? Buy some nursery decorations and so on with daisies on, plant some in the garden, etc?

LoudPlumDog · 18/09/2026 12:39

Daisy Maisy Mae ! A great pet name.

ScruffMuffin · 18/09/2026 22:24

There's nothing to stop you calling her Daisy Mae. They're both fabulous names and you can't go wrong with either.

Summerlovingtheraspberries · Yesterday 07:01

I think they are both similar names if that helps.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · Yesterday 07:21

As she is only 10 months old how about adding Mae as her middle name and getting them to add in the hyphen to make her officially Daisy-Mae. My did the same thing with my Grandaughter she took the hyphen out. There is a fee though say around 20 well there was back then 2022
