I like romantic sort of sounding names. I am a history nut mainly just European history but am interested in some other bits. My DS is called Alexander though I usually call him Alex. And I love Alex. But we are struggling to think of a boys name. Am not even pregnant yet. Sigh. But really can you give me some ideas??? I love Cassius but DH thinks it sounds poncey. I can see what he means but I still love it. I also like Cary (as in Grant)

Thoughts????

Octavian

traceybath · 29/06/2008 18:42

FranSanDisco · 29/06/2008 18:42

Christopher (Columbus)
Samuel (Pepys)
Marco (Polo)

ninja · 29/06/2008 18:43

Troy, Jason(!), Odysseus?,

eenybeeny · 29/06/2008 18:43

like Louis and Owen. Love the story of Owen the first Tudor as well. It Owen associated with anything else in the UK or is it popular?

nice though they are, cassius and cary have issues, cassius may be shortened to the feminine sounding cassie and cary might be taken for a girls name by others...

TotalChaos · 29/06/2008 18:44

Tristan.

Claudius.

Marius.

Darius.

Louis (Pasteur or Armstrong)

Albert (Schweitzer)

Virgil.

TotalChaos · 29/06/2008 18:44

Hector.

eenybeeny · 29/06/2008 18:45

oooh like Octavian but I suspect DH would feel the same about it as Cassius.

Really like Troy too which is funny because where I come from there is a really shit town called Troy so I grew up hating the name then got to know the story and now I love it but there is another Troy (baby) in my village and I would feel a bit funny about it.

If you are flexible, perhaps you'd consider calling a future child Mastercard?

Alternatively, Othello, Galahad and Rumpelstiltskin are making a come back.

ButterflyBessie · 29/06/2008 18:45

Cassius is gorgeous, I would never call my own son that, but I do like it

What about Cosmo - wonderfully romantic name, or of course the number one romantic Cassanova

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 18:47

Eric. I think there's an old lay featured a chap called Eric who won a woman called Ened or Enid or something like that in a joust.

Or he won her falcon or summat like that.

eenybeeny · 29/06/2008 18:50

Rumplestiltskin is about right. DH hates pretty much every name but Alex. Of course we could have a girl which is sorted and this would all be a moot point but I like to be prepared and I sort of expect another boy.

I love Cassius and Cary. I know they sound a little feminine. But I know a little girl called Alex...

Hector makes me think of Hector the Collector.

Love Louis too after the XVI and DH is considering it.

yes I like cassius. What is it Caesar says about him in the play? 'yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look about him....give me men about me who are sleek and fat..'

lovely name but slightly unfortunate in thathe orchestrates Caesar's murder!
