Is it fine to honour grandma in our baby boy’s middle name?

I think I'm massively overthinking this but pregnancy brain is good at that!

We're having another boy and I feel like I've used up all the names to honour male relatives which is what we've done with middle names (first names are just a name we like). I want to give this one a name in honour of my mum e.g. Stephen for Steph, Joe for Joanna that sort of thing.

I just need reassurance that it's fine to name a bit after his grandma when his brothers are named after grandpas/uncles etc

Totally fine!

Just a thought but would you be able to use her maiden name as a forename? My DSis did this but DM's maiden name is a forename, eg Martin, so it worked well. Obviously you won't be able to do this if her surname is something like Smith or Barnett

Of course it’s fine to give your own baby a middle name to honour your own mum.

My brother has our grandmother's name as a middle name (but the male version) he hates it and has stopped using it but i think thats just him tbh (and the name does sound like a woman's name unless you see the spelling)

My son has Lee for a middle name because my grandma Lily died when I was pregnant with him. Then my cousin had a girl 25 yrs later and named her Lily..
So it's fine. Really it's lovely.

Unfortunately, her maiden name is very definitely a surname so would be a bit odd

Yeah absolutely.

I have the female version of my mum’s dad’s first name.

Would assume it’s pretty common as so many names have m/f versions.

Yes my son has my grandmas maiden name of Taylor as a way to honour her.

Thank you all

Yes very nice.

I think it's bit weird. The male version would just be a random name, not really anything to do with his grandma.

Except it would not be random. Random means there’s no plan, pattern or purpose to the name. Using the male version of a female name is showing plan and pattern.

Totally fine.
