Linda, Andrea, Sophia or Emma

Hello,
My husband and I didn't grow up in the UK, so we could really use some name advice. We've picked names that work in both of our languages (ending in -a among other things) and sound okay in English.
Here are our favourites: Linda, Andrea, Sophia, or Emma.
Are there any major no-gos here? I like them all, but I have small reservations about each:
Linda & Andrea: I like the sound and that they are not everywhere right now, but I'm aware they feel quite old-fashioned in the UK (or at least the US). Andrea also seems a bit awkward to pronounce? I guess the girl would be "Andy".
Sophia: my husband's favourite but the spelling is different in my native language.
Emma: Lovely name and we don't know any Emmas in the UK, but it's currently the most popular name in my home country, and several of our friends already have children with similar names.

We'd love to hear your thoughts or if any of these carry unexpected vibes!

Of course all of these are fine but as someone who has a very foreign sounding first name I'd like to make sure that the child will not have to spell their name every time they introduce themselves!

@pimlicopubber , I think you have misinterpreted the meaning of timeless. Linda and Andrea are not timeless. They are very much linked with a certain era.
Sophia and Emma are, because although they have been very popular, they've been in use for centuries. Examples include Sophia of Hanover and Emma Hamilton.

I'd put Andrea in a 1960s category along with names like Paula and Nicola.

Sophia has become a very trendy name in many countries but Andrea or Linda would be seen as timeless as those names were never at the top of the list.
Elizabeth is considered timeless in the UK. It has been popular for hundreds of years. Which diminutive is popular varies but the full name has been in the top 100 names for girls for at least 125 years.

I don't think there would have been any Lindas or (female) Andreas 125 years ago.

Linda may also have pronunciation issues - an Italian relative is Leen-dah whereas my neighbour is Linder.

Agree with many pp that Linda and Andrea don't work well in the UK just now.

Emma is my favourite from your list.

Linda is very dated here, and Andrea feels dated too pronounced And-ree-ah. I do know a couple of Eastern European girls with this name, pronounced On-drey-ah, which I'm guessing is the pronunciation you may use? It's not as unheard of on young girls as Linda, but I'm still not keen.

Sophia is nice but very popular, both this spelling and Sofia. She probably will be one of several, and it sounds like you're trying to avoid that?

Emma fits your bill of suiting both cultures and not being overly popular, currently, over here. The only young ones I know of have Eastern European heritage.

Andrea and Linda are a bit dated but Sophia and Emma are both very lovely and more current in my opinion.

What about Nina, that’s a lovely name and ends in an a.

How about Ellen/ Ellena/ Helena?
my nana was Ellen, I love the name, Elena and Eleanor are very European and I love the diminutive’nell’

They are all petty names but you are right Linda and Andrea are quite dated in the UK.

I love Emma and it is my favourite on your list. Also like Sophia but it is very popular in the UK

I really love the name Linda. But maybe Lina is more current. Or Carolina. Or Christina/Cristina. Or Nina.

Agree with @SwedishEdith Sophia and Emma are incredibly dull and overused. If you are from the EU @OPthen you would also hear far too many Sophias and Emmas being called out at any playground or school. They are both very generic names. Have you thought of

love Andrea ❤️ very elegant and I would expect a logical and well grounded young lady and also a professional experienced woman.

I love the name Maria if you've considered that as an option.

I understand what you mean, I am saying that Andrea and Linda are seen as modern names as some countries as they're not seen as old ladies' names.

Can I suggest Anthea as a slightly more timeless alternative to Andrea? Or is the "th" a problem?

People are starting to mutter about Linda making a comeback but to me it isn't a classic name, and is tied to an era, making it quite dated.

Sophia is nice but so very tired these days, and Emma is probably the safest, but there is quite a resurgence of this name atm.

I have a Sofia. It suits her. She’s an 8th polish and her dad has a very Polish name so that’s the thinking behind it. It’s obviously the capital of Bulgaria but never been an issue.

I’m 61 and two ladies in my knitting group are called Linda so I would avoid that

How so? People say that Sophie is timeless but it's actually a very trendy name so doesn't fit the definition. None of the 4 names are really timeless by the definition TBH (I don't necessarily mind just want to make sure that any name we pick doesn't have negative connotations!)

Now starting to lean towards Sophia tbh!
Emma is quite close to our first daughter's name which could be a downside.

Happy to hear more suggestions, unfortunately many of the alternatives are already taken, have spelling/pronunciation issues or either me or my husband are not fans.

My other favourite would be Anna or Olivia but we have little Anna and Oliver in our family already. I also love Diana but for a girl living in the UK, it's not a name I'd pick due to the royal connection.
