Linda, Andrea, Sophia or Emma

Hello,
My husband and I didn't grow up in the UK, so we could really use some name advice. We've picked names that work in both of our languages (ending in -a among other things) and sound okay in English.
Here are our favourites: Linda, Andrea, Sophia, or Emma.
Are there any major no-gos here? I like them all, but I have small reservations about each:
Linda & Andrea: I like the sound and that they are not everywhere right now, but I'm aware they feel quite old-fashioned in the UK (or at least the US). Andrea also seems a bit awkward to pronounce? I guess the girl would be "Andy".
Sophia: my husband's favourite but the spelling is different in my native language.
Emma: Lovely name and we don't know any Emmas in the UK, but it's currently the most popular name in my home country, and several of our friends already have children with similar names.

We'd love to hear your thoughts or if any of these carry unexpected vibes!

Of course all of these are fine but as someone who has a very foreign sounding first name I'd like to make sure that the child will not have to spell their name every time they introduce themselves!

Linda gives me 1980's Mum vibes, and not a fan of Andrea. Sophia and Emma are both lovely though.

Mostly I'm just posting because you're thread title lodged Mambo No.5 into my brain, and now I need to inflict it on everyone else too.

Sophia and Emma are more modern. Linda is definitely a toy an ‘old’ name and would be considered very unusual. Andrea falls in the old, but ‘probably due a revival’ category.

Just to highlight however that the definition of timeless definitely differes by country.
Sophia has become a very trendy name in many countries but Andrea or Linda would be seen as timeless as those names were never at the top of the list. Quick Google search: "Sophia" leads the name lists in Italy, Poland, Spain and the Baltic states"

Sophia and Emma are both lovely and in the “can’t go wrong” category. I think their international popularity is a good thing - they work well all over the world.

For the same reason - how about Anna?

Linda has ‘ mean girl’ associations to me, also!

But Belinda is very pretty.
Emma is much nicer than Sophia, imo. Easier to say, and Sophia generally gets shortened to Soph, which is fairly ghastly.

DS was Going to be Sofia if he was a girl! Spanish relatives on his dad’s side hence the spelling.

Emma is a classic and currently not common amongst kids

I actually like Linda! It would be cute on a little toddler. Emma and Sophia are overused. Andrea is ok.

Sophia, for sure. It's a beautiful name.

I would go for Emma.

Another poster has suggested Belinda, I much prefer that to Linda. Probably popular amongst the same age group but I think the “Bel” start makes it sound fresher.

I really dislike Andrea, I just think of dreary.

Sophia has been very popular from the 90s onwards. Linda was very popular in the 50s (like Betty/Lily now, might be due a revival!), Andrea was big in the 70s/80s.
Emma is probably the most classic (maybe slightly less popular now than a few decades ago?), but they're all lovely. Andrea/Sophia, like all names over 2 syllables, are likely to be abbreviated by other kids, so decide if that's a problem for you.

An interesting point about timeless. To be more precise, for me it means long-established, and equally appropriate for a little girl as an elderly woman. Those were two of the things we had in mind when considering names for our daughter. We ended up, to my delight, with a name that is the female version of my adored father's name and which is little used in the UK. She's happy with it too!

As a 42 year old Andrea (my parents picked my name in 1968 but I wasn’t born until 1984), I’d say no. Also, never, ever ‘Andy’.

Sophia for me, Emma as a second.

Not Linda or Andrea and they are not timeless sorry.

I find Sophia very popular so maybe Emma is best.

I like Andrea but only with An-DREY-a pronunciation, not AN-dreeya

Linda and Andrea are both quite old names, I have not heard a baby with these names ever, I'm 39.

I have an aunt Linda, a cousin Andrea, a niece Sophia, and I’m called Emma 😂😂
my Preference is 💯 Sophia

How about Mia or Isla? They are popular, and pretty.

They are all lovely strong sensible names. Linda is due for a comeback surely, it means "beautiful"!
