My wife and I are struggling to find a name for our third child. (A boy). We would very much like some name suggestions please!

I tend to favour more traditional names, my wife tends to favour modern. I should perhaps mention that we live in the UK and my wife's family background is Hong Kong.

Our son is Arlo, our daughter Matilda. Our family name rhymes with boss. Names will obviously have to fit in with this.

I have actually got myself in a strange position this time round of falling for a name so completely that it feels 100% right for me, only my wife doesn't like it. This is Frankie. However to give a flavour I also like Charlie, Jude, Edmund, Thomas, Alexander. (I know some of these lean more modern but I'm trying to find names we both like).

As for my wife, she likes names such as... um... well, let's just say she's more of a ruler-outer.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you everyone!

FGS no. It’s not a real name.
Give the poor boy a name he can be taken seriously with, not some crappy diminutive.

Frankie is too popular for girls.

Arlo, Matilda and ..
Thomas
Vincent
Eric
Samuel

If i heard Frankie, I would assume a girl tbh.

How about Rowan, Elliot or Rory

TheyGrewUp · 04/08/2026 05:08

Arlo, Matilda and

Tobin
Felix
Crispin
Lucas
John
Jago

Nothing wrong with: Alexander, Thomas, Edward, George, etc. Edmund sold out to the White Queen for Turkish Delight and "Jude the Obscure" puts me off Jude due to the unlucky connotations.

August/Auggie

I feel like you might meet in the middle with Lucas, or possibly Julian.

What about Hugo if she likes Arlo?

I know a few boys with Asian mothers called this, so I presume it passes the pronunciation test? Jack or Jude will never get past an Italian parent!

I wouldn’t say Frankie is traditional, it’s more of a nickname.

Thomas and Alexander are more traditional. I’d group these with George, Henry and James.

I think of Arlo and Jude as more modern names - I’d put these with names like Max, Luca and Leo
