What do you think of the name Luisa?

just so you know I only like this spelling of Luisa/Louisa as I love Spanish names, and I personally really like the name right now. It’s really growing on me, but it would be practically unheard of as a name where I’m from. So what do you think, is it a pretty name?????? thanks!

It’s nice. I know a couple. But if you haven’t got Spanish heritage, I’d spell it Louisa.

Louisa is a perfectly nice, ordinary, been around for centuries name, isn't it?

Luisa is just a different spelling ( that she'll grow to be sick of correcting).

I love it. Gorgeous name and I love the nickname Lou (or I guess Lu!) as well.

I love it no matter what way you spell it . If in UK and not Spanish Louisa would be better to avoid a lifetime of always having to spell it out .

Prefer Louisa but Luisa is ok

Love it and love the Luisa spelling.

I wouldn't worry about having to spell it out, Jayne, Catherine, Nichola, Rachael and Clare all have to spell their names out too.

I do think they're pronounced slightly differently though, Louise-a vs. Luis-a.

I quite like Louisa, and grew up with several, all very nice girls.

I knew one Luisa who was a very different kettle of fish, suffice it to say!

She had no Spanish heritage, (and I can see it may be used differently in a different culture). This Luisa was called that for the yoonique spelling and definitely had that classic "look at our dc who is so special and different" upbringing.

So I guess I'm a bit biased against it. Also, to my English eyes it looks like a typo. I know it isn't.

It reminds me of that awful woman who was on the Apprentice with a really squeaky voice. I think she's some kind of Dubai based right wing 'influencer' now?

Spell it properly for England and its great.

@Rufusisturnedon , OP isn't in England or even the UK and it's for a fictional baby.
Why should a parent spell a name the "English" way if they prefer a different spelling?
Would it be OK to use Luisa in Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales?

. . . And they are always, always girls names for a hypothetical baby. Given that there's a 50% chance OP would have a boy if she became pregnant, this aspect has always concerned me

There's several women in my place called Louisa, if it's said that way? They tend to go by Lou, but then any name more than one syllable often ends up shortened.

It's a nice enough name, but I would spell it the way it is usually spelled in the Country she is living.
So, if in England, I would spell it Louisa.

If you use a name that people have heard in their language, they will instinctively spell it the way they assume it to be. So, if growing up in England, she will constantly having to be correcting it. If it is a name not familiar to them - ie a typically Spanish name, if that is your culture - then they will be more likely to ask

I was best friends with a Luisa at school. She was constantly correcting teachers about pronunciation and spelling of her name (Lu-EES-ah not Lu-EEZ-ah). As an adult she’s now changed her name to Louisa - all her adult friends only know her as that, it was even on all the wedding stationary as Louisa. So it obviously bothered her that much!

I love both Luisa and Louisa.
