I like:

Lucille
Bella
Eloise
Lisbeth
Clara
Genevieve
Ava
Topsy
Hannah
Heidi

any other ideas that might fall into my name zone. Only interested in girls at the moment until I can talk DH out of Sam, even in theory.

Lucille - Love Lucy, but i'm not keen on Lucille
Bella - Lovely. But prefer it as a shortened version of Isabella
Eloise - Very pretty. I know a lovely Eloise, also known as Ella
Lisbeth - Don't like this, but LOVE Elizabeth
Clara - Not keen, but its certainly not offensive
Genevieve - I really like this, but don't like nn's Genny or Gen
Ava - Pretty and classic
Topsy - Is this a name?
Hannah - beautiful and timeless
Heidi - love this. quirky without being too unusual

Good luck x

janeite · 25/06/2008 23:12

Bella and Eloise - Love both of these; were both on my "list"! And of course Eloise is a damn fine song too!
Don't like Genevieve, Ava, Topsy (!!!!!) or Heidi.

hayley2u · 25/06/2008 23:15

TheFallenMadonna · 25/06/2008 23:41

From your list I like Bella and Clara.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/06/2008 23:42

Topsy

Imagine a 45 year old woman called Topsy.

No.

Weegiemum · 26/06/2008 05:40

Topsy was my Gran's guinea pig!

EffiePerine · 26/06/2008 05:58

Clara and Hannah nice

I love Genevieve - you can have nice shortenings as well. We were seriously considering it for this one

BexieID · 26/06/2008 12:17

Eloise
Clara
Ava
Hannah

CristinaTheAstonishing · 26/06/2008 12:20

I like Eloise, Elizabeth and Heidi from your list (and have all those as first or middle names for my DDs). I like Hannah as well.

Clara is a bit difficult to pronounce, I think and doesn't have any diminutives - if that bothers you.

artichokes · 26/06/2008 12:31

I like Clara best. Others are all fine except for Topsy which is terrible. What if she wants to be a doctor or a barrister - can you imagine attracting new clients to your law firm with the words "Hi I am Topsy"?

mummypud · 26/06/2008 14:57

we have hannah and heidi as our very last short list! so love them both , how do you search to see how many children have been given names? and does any body know how to do a local name popularity search?

belgo · 26/06/2008 14:58

How did Topsy get into your list?

I love Heidi.

savoycabbage · 26/06/2008 14:59

I like them all. Even Topsy!

There are a lot of Heidis and Avas roud here though.

Lucille - Okay, not the prettiest of sounding names.
Bella - Makes me think of tweenies. Personally, I would go with a longer version and shorten it, something like Isabelle or Annabel or something.
Eloise - Love it, my DD1's name. Do be prepared for it to get shortened. We use Ella, but lots of people seem to want to call her Ellie.
Lisbeth - As others said, prefer Elisabeth.
Clara - Love, but no shortenings, which would put me off.
Genevieve - Nice, but not one of my faves.
Ava - Like, but a bit short and can't do much with it.
Topsy - Sorry but no
Hannah - Okay, just strikes me as a bit of a boring name though.
Heidi - Not keen I'm afraid.

When we considered Eloise we also considered Elise and Elodie as similar names, and of course Eloisa too. We also liked Louisa which has a similar tone.

Also what about Susannah, Annabel(la), Sophia, Francesca? Other names we liked and considered, along with many names from your list.
HTH

CristinaTheAstonishing · 26/06/2008 16:07

Savoy - whereabouts are you? Switzerland? I haven't met other Heidis yet but DD2 is only 9 months old.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 26/06/2008 16:08

Mummypud - we had Hannah on the shortlist too. Then heard Heidi and the decision was made!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 26/06/2008 16:12

They are all nice except Lisbeth (just call her Elisabeth, please) and Topsy which is ridiculous.

MrsMattie · 26/06/2008 16:14

Lucille - lovely, old fashioned, I liked this but DH hated it
Bella - gorgeous
Eloise - nice
Lisbeth - not keen
Clara - pretty
Genevieve - pretty
Ava - too common for my tastes these days
Topsy - HIDEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hannah - OK
Heidi - too cutesy
