St Casilda of Toledo was a Moorish princess who later converted to Christianity. Her name may be of Germanic origin (partly derived from the element hild "battle"), or it may be an hispanization of an Arabic name such as Qasida ("ode; messenger").

There's a Casilda in The Gondoliers so people might make assumptions about your musical taste. I like it, though I don't think I'd have been brave enough to choose a name that's quite so unusual.

Hmm, not a fan. Sounds like one parent wanted Cassandra, the other wanted Hilda, so they compromised.

I thought it was an amalgam (Cassie and Matilda? Cassandra and Hilda?) when I read it, but that was obviously my ignorance.

'Casilda of the Rising Moon' was one of my favourite books as a child.

I always thought that it's a beautiful name.
