Complicated question sorry, we are trilingual family trying to decide on a name for DD2. The only name we both agreed on was Xanthe, but didn't like the way it is pronounced with 'thee' at the end. Phonetically what we actually prefer is Shante (from Chantal), now we'd like to hear your opinions about the image of this name(as it is foreign to us). In my mind, by the look of it Xanthe, although meaning 'blond', could be dark, red or blond haired, but why do I have the feeling Shante is a dark girl? We are half nordic and don't want to hijack another identity, just like the sound of the name a lot! Chante looks like a fair-haired girl to me (I know I'm not making any sense), but for some weird reason too posh. Any opinions welcome, surname is short Spanish.

I like Xena, the Warrior Princess is just too much of a label.

You're right, christina, Asante has the same nice sound to it. But giving so very African name to a Nordic child... I'm just weirdly drawn to the -te-("tay") ending girls' names now.
