Hi all,

Just wanted opinions on the names Fern and Willow. These are both our favourites :) 💗💗

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DinoDances · 25/06/2026 20:40

I really like both. How many syllables is last name as one might flow better?

Thirteenblackcats · 25/06/2026 20:41

I love nature so both of these are lovely names to me. I probably prefer Fern of the two

FernaFrey · 25/06/2026 20:43

Thanks both! Surname is 2 syllables

Fern reminds me of that ghastly woman who makes tv programmes on Cornwall, then bleats on and on that she sat on a bench somewhere in 1964 with her now dead dog and it was 'lovely' and 'special'...

Fern britton!

Willow? Wasn't that a film from the 80s? Or an adult sex worker on a Louis theroux documentary from nevada?

I mean, they're better than Cruella, maxine and myra, but perhaps think of others???

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/06/2026 20:49

Both are lovely. I liked Willow or Wren for a girl but had a boy. I like Fern (or Fearne).

FernaFrey · 25/06/2026 20:49

Thank you for the laughs @Diamond7272 😂😂 Think I’ve hit a nerve

Sorry, but fern britton's programmes are shear torture on Cornwall...

"here's a photo of me as a baby at St Michael's mount in 1907..."

God,who cares?????

Please not fern. Isn't fearne that woman who sell washing detergent pods on tele with a big toothy grim and a fluffy cashmere jumper, the ourrfect mummy... Arial pods, that one!!!

Diamond7272 · 25/06/2026 20:54

Come on, 'willow' is a bit Spearmint Rhino, you've got to admit...

Stringfellows?

Walkthelakes · 25/06/2026 20:55

I love nature names and have a Willow! I also really like Fern. Both gentle soft names but not too out there. Other names I liked but didn't choose, but you might if we have the same taste: Nina, River, Iona.

Thank you. Yes I also really like River I’m just not sure I would use it. Love that you have a Willow :)

Willow is by far the most popular girls name in my school if that influences your decision. No Ferns.

Weegieunicorn · 25/06/2026 21:13

Willow is an extremely popular name with whippet owners...

SomersetSausage · 25/06/2026 21:17

Fern is lovely. Willow is nice enough but loads around and I think it will date badly.

CeciliaMars · 25/06/2026 21:18

Willow is a bit um, chavvy to me…

Noodleschicken · 25/06/2026 21:18

Sorry - I don’t like either at all.

SallyAnnDrivesACar · 25/06/2026 21:21

Willow, hands down.

BakedPotatoBeansCheeseColeslaw · 25/06/2026 21:26

Fern for sure, there are three Willows in every toddler room these days

user293948849167 · 25/06/2026 21:33

I really like both.
Fern is a little less popular and may sound better with a 2 syllable surname so I would pick that if I had to choose

GoldenNuggets08 · 25/06/2026 21:36

Fern for sure! Love it. Willow was the name of 3 of my friend's dogs when I was growing up and I can't accept it as a human name because of that.

What are your children’s names?

Adolf and hermann

Bluffingwithmymuffin · 25/06/2026 21:45

I love nature names, both names are beautiful but out of the two I prefer Fern as it's less popular than Willow.

If you're still considering other names you might like Laurel, Daphne or Selene. Or a mythological name like Selkie

NChangeorama · 25/06/2026 21:50

Meadow
Summer
(two names of DDs friends and I can’t remember their names other than “nature” names so try any of these including Willow and Fern …)

schoolsoutforever · 25/06/2026 21:50

Love them both. Particularly Willow. Not Spearmint Rhino at all. I taught an 18 year old last year with the name and thought it was lovely.
