Id- a- lee

Fleurdalys · 25/06/2026 16:45

Like Italy but with a d instead of the t

Daffodilsinthespring · 25/06/2026 16:47

If it’s eye- da -lee, idle would be a rubbish shortening!

NamingNoNames · 25/06/2026 16:47

Id-ARL-yuh (non rhotic R)

BlackRedGold · 25/06/2026 16:41

I’d pronounce it Ee dah lee.

Sort of like the way someone with a French accent might pronounce Italy.

Same here.

Bellybellas · 25/06/2026 16:56

In German id say Ee dah lee

In English Eye dah lee

dizzydizzydizzy · 25/06/2026 16:58

KnickerlessParsons · 25/06/2026 16:25

Idd-a-lee

This!

Firetreev · 25/06/2026 17:01

Ee-dah-lee. I don't think most people who aren't used to the European pronunciation of Ida would though.

Duvetdayforme · 25/06/2026 17:05

Eye-dah-Lee

NorthernDancer · 25/06/2026 17:13

Eed-a-lee

NamingNoNames · 25/06/2026 17:23

How would you say it? Are you asking because you want to use it, @Fiddlesticks1 ?

HoppityBun · 25/06/2026 17:27

Idd-a-Lee.

Be aware there’s a South Indian rice pancake called Idli.

Quizzled · 25/06/2026 17:34

I - like the first half of “in”
da - as day
lie - as lee
With the emphasis on middle syllable

I-da-lie
I-day-lee

I have dd with middle name Adelie so I’m matching the pronunciation of that.

Lovely name!

KnittyKnotty · 25/06/2026 17:36

Id-dah-ly

Like Italy with a D.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 25/06/2026 17:39

I’d say it like Italy but with a ‘d’. So ‘Id-a-lee’

KittyHigham · 25/06/2026 17:41

Italy with a d

Hellometime · 25/06/2026 17:42

Eye da lee.

Not a fan as it sounds like idle which isn’t a good trait.

Yetanotherone12 · 25/06/2026 17:43

Roomonthe3rdfloor · 25/06/2026 16:13

Just had a Google

Idalie is a rare, historically rooted given name primarily used for girls, with German origins meaning "active" and French/Swedish roots translating to "behold the sun".

interesting, as I automatically read it with a Deep South US accent 🤣

wasn’t whoopi Goldberg’s character in Ghost Ida-May? I’d pronounce it like that but with Lee instead of May.

catsflorafauna · 25/06/2026 17:46

Italy but with a d instead of T.

Iocanepowder · 25/06/2026 17:48

Oliwiaa · 25/06/2026 16:11

My first thought was Id-ah-lee-eh but then I thought maybe Ida-Lee.

same for me.

sorry i don’t like either of them for an english name

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 25/06/2026 17:49

Id- AH - lee - a

Teanandtoast · 25/06/2026 17:54

Id- a-lee. A bit like Italy? I've not heard of it before ☺️

bridgetreilly · 25/06/2026 19:08

Idly.

muddyford · 25/06/2026 19:09

Iddlee

Chickenwing2 · 25/06/2026 19:17
