Twin brother for Hudson?

zaerth · 23/06/2026 11:54

We're expecting twin boys! We have one name decided on, but are having trouble deciding on the other twin's name. We also have a daughter Ava as well, so we want a name that sounds nice when all three are said together. Any thoughts on these names?

Sawyer

Colby

Callum

Knox

Allegheny/Mohawk - other rivers in NY state
Sully - celebrated pilot Chelsey Sullenberger who landed on the Hudson

other places in NYC
Brooklyn ...
Kip (Kips Bay)
Lennox (Hill)

On the old Hollywood theme: [Ava Gardner, Rock Hudson]
Frank (Francis Albert Sinatra) - this one flows well
Dean/Sammy/Tony/Bing
Fred (Astaire) - I think this one goes well too
Eugene (Gene Kelly)
Clark (Gable) I think this one flows best
Marlon (Brando)
Jimmy Stewart

From PPs' lists
Blake
Quinn

All I think of when I hear the word Hudson is the plane that crashed into the Hudson River. I did love the film, Sully: Miracle on the Hudson though.

I’m not sure I would name my child after a river where a lot of people will make the same connection.

Part of me thinks you may be American though as you’ve also listed Knox and Sawyer (as well as Hudson)? But I don’t automatically associate Ava with a being a common American name so perhaps not?

But either way….

I really like the name Callum but not a fan of the others (disclaimer, I am English so they may be more popular where you are if you are American).

They may be popular but it doesn't mean they sound nice in British accents. They originated in a place where they sounded nice and it doesn't always translate well. But it depends on the names and where you live.

In the west coast of Ireland, Sawyer would sound lovely. In parts of London or the Home Counties, it will become SAW-YAAAAH, which (to my ear and just my taste etc), sounds absolutely ghastly

The words as surnames would not have originated in America at all - I'd imagine they all crossed the pond from Britain at some point. But I do agree with you, I've heard the name Hudson said in a strong Birmingham accent and it didn't make a nice sound to me at all (also just my taste).

The names in general on the list aren't my vibe, but they aren't as outlandish as some comments suggest. They'd all sound pretty normal at a park or playground. I like Frank from PP suggestion- Hudson and Frank work as a pairing.

I quite like Hudson. I think Sawyer is the best of your suggestions.

I also like Huxley, Tate and Wyatt.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/06/2026 21:50

Harvey or Hugo?

Silverbirchleaf · 23/06/2026 21:51

Sawyer - a bit to surname-y , but sounds American which I think Hudson does ( Hudson River)
Colby - less sirname, but also American . Quite like
Callum - Nice name, but not sure it goes with Hudson
Knox - no

Suggestions
Cody
Brodie
Hunter
Tate
Judd
Duke

I’m not a fan of any of those, sorry! If I had to pick, I’d say Callum is my favourite but I don’t think it goes well with Hudson. And avoid Knox at all costs, unless you’re trying to create a very particular vibe!

What vibe are you hinting at? #confused

Really dislike Colby from your choices, the rest are ok.

Love the old Hollywood suggestions of Frank (Francis), Fred (Frederick) and Clark.

Like Tate and Jesse.

AliceMcK · 23/06/2026 22:20

My first thought was Hawke after the movie, sorry.

I think Sawyer is the one that goes best as I feel they are both Americanised names. Not my taste but I think if you like them then you go with which feels right for you.

Along with my own choice of Harvey if you like the Americanised names, ( personally I don’t) I also like Jesse - and Max

I know of someone whose children are called Hudson and Carson, which makes it seem like she has some kind of fictional TV butler fixation.
