Twin brother for Hudson?

zaerth · 23/06/2026 11:54

We're expecting twin boys! We have one name decided on, but are having trouble deciding on the other twin's name. We also have a daughter Ava as well, so we want a name that sounds nice when all three are said together. Any thoughts on these names?

Sawyer

Colby

Callum

Knox

The problem with lots of the place names or using surnames as first names is that it makes them sounds like Gladiators! (Hunter/ Saxon etc) with twins this is going to be even more of a risk so if you are 100% on Hudson choose something more classic for the other child

Not a fan of surnames as first names at all.

Hudson has an American vibe.

Ava is more classic.

I'm not really into American names but here's a few with a similar vibe IMO.

  • Asher
  • Blake
  • Jordan
  • Kingsley
  • Logan

Ava is a reasonable name. Hudson and your suggestions less so.

I am in a bit of a hobby horse on parental responsibility today but in my view you, you are doing your children no favours by giving them names like this.

People will judge them to their detriment on having non-traditional names. They shouldn't but they will.

So if you want to enhance your children's life chances than please give them traditional names!

The little Hudson I met had a brother called Noah. Out of your choices I like Callum.

Some of the comments reflect out of date naming trends- Hudson and surname type names were more American at one point. But Hudson is 42 most popular name in England and Wales, 1,214 baby Hudsons born in 2024. It's much more popular than, say Christopher or Matthew.

Hudson Colby, Hudson Knox. They sound like a firm of solicitors. Sorry

But less classy...

May not be fair but it's true.

I like Callum out of your options but not keen on the double “um/un” endings together with Hudson. I think sawyer works best of your options although I’m less keen for some reason.

With Hudson, I immediately thought of Dexter. I think it would work well with a name ending “er”. I also like Parker and Fraser.

They may be popular but it doesn't mean they sound nice in British accents. They originated in a place where they sounded nice and it doesn't always translate well. But it depends on the names and where you live.

In the west coast of Ireland, Sawyer would sound lovely. In parts of London or the Home Counties, it will become SAW-YAAAAH, which (to my ear and just my taste etc), sounds absolutely ghastly

Twinsandsome · 23/06/2026 19:06

Ava, Hudson and Mason

LondonKara · 23/06/2026 19:16

Honestly why comment if it's just to say something snide. Lots of Irish names are rivers btw - Shannon most notably. Anyway my suggestions:
Mackenzie
Oakley
Archer
Kellan

Ipollita · 23/06/2026 19:21

Hudson and…

Tate
Casey
Wyatt
Brody
Caleb
Isaac
Cole

I know two Hudsons.
One has a brother called Brooklyn and they go by Hudders and Brookie.
The other one has brothers called Rio and Sullivan(Sully).
