Would Elliot and Elsie/Elodie be too similar for siblings?

I’m pregnant with my first child, so of course overthinking everything. Still early days so won’t know gender for a while, but getting the shortlist ready.

I’ve had my heart set on Elliot for a boy for years. However, if I have a girl I also really like other ‘El’ names, particularly Elsie and Elodie. Would these names be too similar for a brother & sister should a brother come along in the future, knowing I’d absolutely want to call him Elliot?

Lily is another current favourite, & suggestions are welcome ^^

If I didn't know you, or their ages, I'd assume they were twins.

Lovely names either way, Elsie is less similar than Elody.

I have a Miles and a Maia, it's never been a problem...

I don’t see a problem, they sound lovely.

BoleynMemories13 · 17/06/2026 18:46

They would be way too similar for me.

Nisey · 17/06/2026 20:26

I’m considering the name Elliot for a boy, and I adore the name Elodie for a girl too. I think we’re on the same wavelength with names here!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/06/2026 20:56

nice name but the problem I see is when older a letter comes address to

miss E Become

if have 2 girls or even E Become and could be either child

CeciliaMars · 17/06/2026 21:09

Too similar. Both nicknamed El…

LivingTheDreamish · 18/06/2026 05:43

I think Elliot and Elsie are nice together. I don't think the matching "El" beginning is an issue as neither are likely to be shortened to "Ellie" which would be the main reason not to call two sisters Eleanor and Elise or similar.

Elodie/Elliott are just too close in how they sound so I'd avoid that.

Thank you for the opinions! I think I’m leaning towards them being too similar for myself, better to save them as future potentials.
