Thoughts on Lilia or Liliana for a girl’s name

Thoughts on the girls name Lilia or Liliana (PS - i’m not bothered about the fact that Lilia was a sanitary brand product as it’s doesn’t affect my generation)

middle name will most likely be Florence or Iris but again not to worried about how it flows with middle name as people rarely hear the full name anyway

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Peonies12 · 15/06/2026 21:20

Honestly I’d just use Lily. It’ll be shortened anyway.

flowerworld · 15/06/2026 21:34

Both fine but I much prefer Iris and Florence for first names.
i think Iris Florence has a lovely ring to it.

I agree with this ~ Iris Florence is so much nicer than Lilia or Liliana

And, as previously mentioned by another PP, both Lilia & Liliana would be shortened to Lily so Iris wouldn't be an ideal 2nd name as it would be the names of 2 flowers

CheeryMintHiker · 15/06/2026 21:53

Thankyou, which is your favourite

Iris Florence
Iris Aurelia
Iris Isadora

Iris Florence out of those options

Snugglemonkey · 15/06/2026 22:00

I think Lilia is a very awkward sound. I also think Iris sounds very awkward due to the double vowel, especially with Liliana.

CoddledAsAMommet · 15/06/2026 22:03

My 19 year old Dd has 3 friends called Lillia / Lilia. I've always found it unnecessarily flouncy. None off them are shortened to Lily; they're all 'Lils'.

Nelly44 · 15/06/2026 22:18

I think both are lovely, I particularly like Lilia - it’ll only get shortened to lily if you want it to

mumumental · 15/06/2026 22:20

Prefer Lily. The alternatives sound a bit “extra”.

Giraffehaver · 15/06/2026 22:24

Iris Florence is so gorgeous

My child has one of these names, it’s never shortened

Peanutlicious · 15/06/2026 22:43

Love Isadora. Iris Florence is lovely

wishfulthinking25 · 15/06/2026 22:53

What about Lela? Pronounced leh-la. Always loved that name

Olderbutt · 15/06/2026 22:56

Iris Florence is fabulous

Sashya · 15/06/2026 23:11

There are a lot of Irises around.

For me Liliana Florence OR Lilia Florence works too, if you must have two names. Lilia and Iris are both names of flowers, so don't work well together.

Liliana or Lilia are not overused in English - and also work internationally, used in Spanish/Italian.

caringcarer · 15/06/2026 23:36

One of my my dogs is called Lilyanna. The other one Izzabella. I like the name.

user1492757084 · 16/06/2026 06:34

Florence and Iris are sweet but both are becoming more popular. I prefer Liliana to Lilia though neither are 10/10.

Liliana Florence 7
Iris Aurelia 9
Iris Isadora 8
Iris Isotta 10
Iris Florence 9
Iris Arrietta 10

EnidVance · 16/06/2026 07:35

Liliana is so much nicer than Iris.

ScalesWontShift · 16/06/2026 07:35

I know a Lilian and I prefer that to Lilia and Liliana which are both a bit more grand sounding. Depends what you like, all 3 are perfectly nice names but I’d choose Lilian. I also like Iris and Florence but both are much more popular in my area.

CheeryMintHiker · 16/06/2026 07:59

This is so useful and LOVE the suggestions definitely my style

worry Iris Florence is 2 common names and want a slightly more out there fun middle name

what are your thoughts on

Iris Apolina/apoline
iris Aphia (pronounced ‘a-fee-a’)

CheeryMintHiker · 16/06/2026 07:59

Love Iris arietta !

ThreeStripeQueen · 16/06/2026 09:04

I think Lilia is really pretty. I’m not keen on Liliana as much.
However I love Iris and Florence.
Not keen on Arietta though.

Thickasabrick89 · 16/06/2026 09:13

Are you Eastern European for Lilya/Lilia?

I've always thought it was a bit of a tongue twister even when pronounced correctly

NamingNoNames · 16/06/2026 11:26

Thoughts on the girls name Lilia or Liliana They're the overused Lily made frillier and don't have the elegant simplicity that makes Lily nice.

Of Iris Florence, Iris Aurelia and Iris Isadora, I don't really like any of them.
Apolina/apoline, Aphia and Arietta are not 'fun'.

You've started several threads.

bridgetreilly · 16/06/2026 11:35

I really don’t like either. So fussy and twee. Lily or Lilian are much nicer.
