Which name (classic v. unusual)?

Torn which direction to go in. We love both names and both go with surname and middle names (after grandmothers so not open to changing or adding extra middles).

See poll below for name options!

Too vague 🙃

CokeinBottles · 15/06/2026 17:01

Both names are lovely but I've voted Xanthe.

waltrs55 · 15/06/2026 17:02

I don’t see how it’s vague. Did you miss the poll @TessSaysYes ?

They are both lovely.

if you can’t decide - toss a coin, thst will tell you which one you really want.

Tryagain26 · 15/06/2026 17:04

I think I'd go Elizabeth just because it gives her a lot of different options if she doesn't like it when she is older. Bette, Liz, Beth, Lizzie, etc.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 15/06/2026 18:08

Love Xanthe

dizzydizzydizzy · 15/06/2026 18:22

I love both. I can’t choose.

Firebird83 · 15/06/2026 18:53

I love Elizabeth but I’m biased as I have one! Xanthe is a great name too though.

BigOldBlobsy · 15/06/2026 20:14

I have a family member called Xanthe. She’s gorgeous and suits the name. She had no issues in school and was v popular but was once delighted when she met another Xanthe

Bellybellas · 15/06/2026 20:17

Elizabeth is boring. Xanthe is a brilliant and memorable name!

user293948849167 · 15/06/2026 21:17

I really like both but as PP said Elizabeth gives lots of future nickname options

HughManity · 16/06/2026 17:45

They're not comparable. I like Elizabeth more but I don't like most of the diminutives.
If the surname is something run-of-the-mill it might affect my vote.

Something like Elizabeth Smith might be a bit ordinary but Xanthe Smith wouldn't.

Reptarr · 16/06/2026 17:50

Voted Elizabeth but I actually like both!

LilyLemonade · 16/06/2026 21:52

They are both lovely - I personally would go with the more classic Elizabeth.

Greentinselstar · Yesterday 12:02

Xanthe! Fabulous name.

Elizabeth is lovely, and has so many options for nicknames or shortenings. But it's so ordinary when you are open to something a bit more exciting, I'd say.
