We are expecting a baby girl and already have a boy with a traditional name.
These are the names I like (but I think Sophie and Hannah may be too popular)

Sadie
Elise
Josephine - Josie for nn
Sophie
Hannah
Connie

Can anyone suggest others we might like as im not sure we've found 'the one' yet!

Sophie is popular, can’t say I’ve met any small Hannahs (I work with children).

I love Elise. It’s such a cool name,

Hannah is perfect if you want traditional but not popular. Hannah probably had it's peak of popularity around 20-30 years ago. It's not even in the top 100 currently. I only know of one younger than her 20s, and she's a teenager now.

Anna is a similar sounding traditional classic which is also not overly popular any more.

I'm a similar vein to Hannah, other names which use to be really popular in the 90s but are not so popular now:-

Megan
Rebecca
Lauren
Katie
Bethany
Abigail
Emma
Zoe
Rachel
Lucy
Jessica
Chloe

I wouldn't say Hannah is popular for little ones these days. I do know of one 4 year old, but that's it. I think Hannah's lovely abd if it's one of your faves then go for it.

Thank you for all your suggestions. There are a few names I had on my longer list that I was unsure of like Eloise, Jessie and Bethany so you've definitely nailed my style! I like Anna, Lucy and Elizabeth with the nicknames too but have good friends with those names so can't use them unfortunately.
Interesting about peoples thoughts on Hannah. I think it's because my husband knows a lot of them his age he's not loving it.

Go for Hannah! It’s not popular right now. We would have gone for it but it’s the name of my DB’s gf.

We also named our son a name that is reeeally popular in our age group but not so much in the current generation.

Giraffehaver · 31/05/2026 22:20

Eloise is fab, like Elise too, but Eloise sounds nicer imo. Unlike Bethany and Jessie, can’t be shortened. I find they always they end up as Beth or Jess. Josephine could end up perpetually called Jo by others. Sadie also great. Heard Hannah a lot, but then when I was at the age when everyone was having kids it was very popular.

Of course it can be shortened. She'll be Ellie.

Sally, Rebecca, Maddie or Madeline.

I don't think Hannah is popular amongst children being named now or in the last 10/20 years even, but it is a well known name and it's understandable you or your husband might know a few grown up ones. It's a lovely name.
