Theodore Leonidas, Theodore Sebastian, Theodore Julian?

Our DS is called Alexander Socrates. My husband is greek and his father is called Socrates so we honoured their tradition of naming the first born son after the paternal grandfather in this way.

We are now expecting another little boy. First name will be Theodore, but finding a middle name that feels as strong as Socrates is proving to be difficult.

Currently considering the following:
Theodore Leonidas, Theodore Sebastian, Theodore Julian (Julian being my father's name)

Would love to hear opinions and any suggestions.

Thank you 🌸

Julian to maintain the tradition.

OrsolaRosso · 20/05/2026 13:01

Absolutely agree with the above, Julian to honour your father.

Motherbear44 · 20/05/2026 13:02

Definitely Julian. A lovely name in its own right, but honouring grandparents is a good family tradition.

Theodore Leonidas is a bit of a mouthful. Theodore Sebastian is by far my favourite but will your dad be miffed if you don't use his name? No one is called Julian any more and for good reason IMO - sorry newmumnewmum's dad!

ThreeStripeQueen · 20/05/2026 13:04

Agree with others it has to be Julian. It’s lovely anyway but the family connection makes it more special.
My second choice would be Sebastian.

ScruffMuffin · 20/05/2026 15:26

Julian. I think it's lovely, but it also has meaning for your family. I'm sure you dad will be delighted.

Sebastian goes nicely too.

Theodore Leonidas is a mouthful.

Theodore Julian to honour your dad 🙂

Definitely Julian after your dad. ❤️

Before I opened the thread I was going to say Leonidas only if you are Greek or very connected with Greece! But I would go with Julian for your father.

HoldItAllTogether · 20/05/2026 15:54

All are fantastic names. Dont worry about how they sound together , just choose the one you like the most. People rarely use their middle names.

CurlewKate · 20/05/2026 15:59

Obviously your father’s name. OBVIOUSLY!

csg376 · 20/05/2026 16:22

Love Theodore Julian!!

Calliopespa · 20/05/2026 16:55

Socrates! Golly ...

I'd go Theodore Julian - or, if DS2 wants to have a hope of feeling equal to brother Socrates in ancient world terms, would Julius be similar enough?

Firebird83 · 20/05/2026 17:53

Theodore Julian

ScruffMuffin · 20/05/2026 23:08

I've realised what I'm not keen on with Theodore Leonidas. It's Theo Leo, with the d sound also in common. Just a bit much, although each is great on their own.

Still Julian, and Julius is a good shout too.

Eenameenadeeka · Yesterday 09:35

Definitely Julian, for your Dad and it flows the nicest I think. Theodore is such a lovely name but already so strong, I think Theodore Leonidas is a bit too much

user1492757084 · Yesterday 09:45

Theodore Julian
Or another name honouring your father.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · Yesterday 10:12

Theodore Julian flows nicest, which is what I was going to write simply after having read the title.

With the additional information about your DF that’s even more clearly the top choice!

Theodore Julian sounds best (imo) and you’d continue the naming tradition you started with your DS1.

Overtheatlantic · Yesterday 10:14

Julian definitely. And I love the names you have given your sons.
