Thoughts on Euan or other Scottish and European baby boy names

Am considering the name Euan/Ewan if I have a boy. Would appreciate honest opinions/suggestions. Quite fancy a name with Scottish origins but haven't found one I like apart from Euan. Also like European names - Mateo and Eliseo are on my list. Thanks in advance 🙏

Murray or Glen? Avoids a lifetime of DVLA wrongly issuing your driving licence in name ‘Evan’.

I really don’t like Euan, and I say that as a Scottish person.

Alistair
Blair
Brodie
Kerr
Lachlan

I love Mateo but wouldn’t use it unless I had southern European heritage.

Cormac is Irish.

Euan is quite popular in England now. Various spellings but it is a Scottish name most people do manage and it's not easy to mangle the pronunciation.

RaspberryCloud · 19/05/2026 16:51

Ruaridh! Rory if you want to avoid the afore mentioned lifetime of spelling 😁

Fair enough, I know two and they both have two lls and they are both Scottish! But I get into the weeds with Welsh names as well.

Harmony10 · 19/05/2026 17:02

I really like Euan/Ewan 😊

Rassy · 19/05/2026 17:13

Love the name Euan - I think it is ageless. I know young and old Euans Grin

I think the double l has become the default now.

Yes, possibly so - both the people I know are in their 20s or early 30s.

Tellmetomorrow57 · 19/05/2026 17:45

Think it's lovely!

I would only use Mateo with heritage though.

To the pp who said Glen- makes me think of vodka!

I love Rory, Brodie and Finn too

You might want to think about the spelling of Calum if you want a “Scottish” name. Callum I’m is the anglicised version.

I went to school with several Euans, a Ewan, a Ewen, and Eoin and an Eoghainn!

Bohemond23 · 19/05/2026 18:06

I like Euan. In fact I have one. It’s a great name.

NamingNoNames · 19/05/2026 19:41

No to Mateo and Eliseo. Euan is nice.
