Thoughts on our boy name shortlist for George’s sibling

Namehelp31 · Yesterday 13:01

Hello, I'd really appreciate thoughts on a shortlist of boy names please, and any other suggestions you think we might like based on these. We don't know the sex yet so may not use any of these. They will be a sibling to George. Middle name will be Alastair. Surname double barrelled S-S.

James
Griff (Gruffydd)
Fred (Frederick)
Wilf (Wilfred)
William

Thanks :)

I’d go for James. But why not Alasdair? It’s a fabulous name. I don’t think you can have Gruffydd Alasdair though, it crosses cultural streams in a pretty extreme way!

Jessbow · Yesterday 13:05

Griff (Gruffydd) is a bit fancy after George. George & Griff doesnt roll together very well either

i like your others

Johnathan Maybe?

KnitWitsAnonymous · Yesterday 13:08

James would be my choice and I think George & James match well as a sibling set

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Yesterday 13:09

Just go for the names used by the Royal Family - predictable and common.

Thanks, this is helpful! To explain the crossing cultures - we live in Wales and he will be a Welsh speaker. I have Scottish heritage, Alastair is a family name so we're set on that as a middle name.

I really don’t think you can use Fred, due to the Harry Potter Fred and George combination - not a bad association, but it will live on as peoples first thought for a long while yet I think.

Something that does go with ASS..
Not William. WASS
Not a G name.. GASS
Evan?

ImFineItsAllFine · Yesterday 13:20

Not Fred because of Harry Potter. Agree with @Sunisgettinganewhaton that GASS isn't great as a set of initials (WASS isn't so bad though?). Wilf is getting a bit trendy right now so I'd say William from your list.

Myoldbear · Yesterday 13:23

James has the lovely traditional feel that George does. Those names go really well together.

BeaLola · Yesterday 13:26

James
Henry
Lawrence
Max or Maxim

Alastair is handsome.

My favourite from your first names are
Gruffydd
Wiilliam

Suggestion - David

Mumofgirls2017 · Yesterday 13:57

I like Frederick best but William and Wilfred go nicely too. George and…

Henry
Alexander
Charles
Nicholas
Thomas
Arthur
Edward
Theodore
Ralph
Rupert
Oscar
Vincent
Alfred
Leonard
Eric

Dizzydrizzy · Yesterday 14:02

Avoid GASS

LaVitesse2022 · Yesterday 14:24

From your list I like James and William. Strong, solid, traditional names like George. Have you considered Henry? Or Edward.

sunflowerdaisies · Yesterday 14:33

William! I like James but not the alliteration of George and James.

RegalDiamondMonster · Yesterday 15:17

William, Griff or Wilf. I'm not a James fan at all (although Jamie is nice).

DeathMetalMum · Yesterday 16:12

I think

Henry Alistair is nice.

Hugo, Jude, James also work well. I think one or two syllables is going to work with the middle and surname.

Tellmetomorrow57 · Yesterday 18:00

James!

FionnulaTheCooler · Yesterday 18:21

I love Fred but as previous posters have pointed out, people will think you named them for Harry Potter characters, not that there's anything wrong with that per se but just something to consider. Wilfred is awful, I'd go for James.

Not with that spelling. It's Jonathan.

LivingTheDreamish · Yesterday 21:00

I like Wilf best, it sounds nice with George.

Gruffyd is too much of a statement next to George and anyway GASS is a big no, William is too royal with George. Why not use Alastair as a first name?

24Dogcuddler · Yesterday 21:37

James is lovely

Giraffehaver · Yesterday 22:27

William would be my pick

I like James, bit not Georgs and James together. It's a bit of a mouthful.

Not keen on Griff.

I quite like Fred, but I'd use Wilfred or Alfred and not Frederick.

Wilf is sweet and so is William.

I think I'd go for Wilfred and then you can decide whether he's a Wil or a Fred or a Wilf when you get to know him better!
