Lila Eloise (pronounce Leela)
Love the combo, what do you think?

I think you will spend a lot of time correcting mispronunciations

I like it. However just consider how you'll feel correcting people over and over who are pronouncing it Ly-la, and then eventually hearing your daughter do the same.

I named my daughter after a family member, who also has a 4 letter name with the second letter being i and the 4th letter being a. I'd only ever heard the name pronounced with an 'eye' sounding 'i' and never in a million years even considered people would say it with an 'ee' sound instead. Naive perhaps but there you go.
Sadly it happens time and time again. I honestly wouldn't have called her something else, or spelt it with a y instead of an I perhaps so people would be more inclined to say it correctly. I'd say 80% of the time she gets her name pronounced incorrectly, and some people are downright rude/dismissive if we politely correct them on the pronunciation.

She's 5 now and has recently said how much she wishes people would just get her name right 😞

I guess in this case people using the 'ee' sound would be what you were hoping, but no guarantees that's how they'd read it.

I understand, but I am not sure of I like the spelling Leela. Is there another spelling to make it pronounce like that?

Lila Eloise- gorgeous names but too many L sounds, maybe?

and yes to having to correct Lila / Lyla though in my head it’s definitely pronounced Leela.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 13/05/2026 22:37

Spell it Lela.

Too many Ls and Is for me
Layla Eloise is easier to say

user1492757084 · 14/05/2026 06:26

I prefer the fewer Ls option of ...
Leah Eloise.

Do you like the first name Lilou with a shorter second name?

NamingNoNames · 14/05/2026 14:32

Leila. The Eloise doesn't go with it.

I really don't like Layla.
