Hey, I'm expecting a baby girl due in September the current list of names I have are below and I'm looking for any other suggestions to fire at my partner as he doesn't seem to overly 'love' any of mine but also doesn't completely dislike them...

Mabel - my fave and he also really likes this

Mila - pronounced m-ee-l-a
Maeve / Maeva
Malia
Marlowe
Ayda / Ada
Alma
Lennie

Any suggestions welcome 🩷

Mabel, May for short.

My top contender as it stands I love it so cute x

Mila sounds an ugly noise like meal, mealy, mealer, so that would be out completely for me.

Mabel, Maeve and Ada sound like really geriatric names. Far nicer ones out there!

The others are OK but a little underwhelming! (Sorry!)

Needmorelego · 06/05/2026 15:38

I like Mabel best from your list.

LulaLulaByeBye · 06/05/2026 15:42

Surely if Mabel is your favourite and he likes it too, then Mabel it is?
I like it much more than your other suggestions.
Alternatives - Amabel, Sylvie, Morgan, Marnie. But Mabel is the best.

I'm starting to dislike Mila in our accents so will probably be off our list shortly.

Please send over any other nicer suggestions, I have a huge family so I'm limited on options.

I like Alba, it has a similar sound to some of your names.
Mabel is nice though if you love it.

Marcie, Maisie, Noa?

SinuousTendrils · 06/05/2026 16:20

Maple? Like Mabel but less old ladyish?

Myoldbear · 06/05/2026 16:23

Mabel is lovely.
I also rather like Alma, because it means 'soul.'

REALLYbigpigeon · 06/05/2026 16:40

Mabel is a really nice name! Lennie would also make an adorable nickname for a longer name like Leona.

RegalDiamondMonster · 06/05/2026 16:44

Mabel is really nice. I think some posters are reminded of old people but younger generations will not think of this, they will only know young Mabels. It's a popular enough name in primary schools and nurseries.

I heard a Sibyl at a playgroup the other day which sounded really sweet actually.

I really like Mila but it would piss me of that people would constantly pronounce it wrong. I really like Malia to. Not keen on the others

Yes 100% this is what puts me off my name has always been pronounced wrong and I don't want her to have the same issues as I did. With Malia I'd like to think it wouldn't get pronounced wrong but how would you pronounce it? To me it's more an AH sound rather than a A if that makes sense 😂
