We are torn on baby boy names and adore Nick (to be officially called Nicholas). Grateful for any thoughts!

Was just talking about this-watching an old Apprentice. Nice name, I think. Maybe because so many nice men I know are called it. Not overcommon, but well known enough.

I have a teenage son with this name, we’ve met one other at his school of their age. We love it, and have had no bad reactions.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/04/2026 20:04

I love the name Nicholas, great choice!

B0D · 26/04/2026 20:08

look out for unkind nick names though, (see what I did there?! 😊)

NamingNoNames · 26/04/2026 20:38

It's fine as long as it goes with the surname.

merrymelody · 26/04/2026 20:51

This is my DS’s name and it suits him. His mates call him Nick but to the rest of us, he’s Nicholas.

Firebird83 · 26/04/2026 21:54

Nicholas is a great name

Giraffehaver · 26/04/2026 22:39

Yes nice name

LittleJustice · 26/04/2026 22:45

It's a great name, I know many lovely Nicks.

user2848502016 · 26/04/2026 22:46

I like it, also like Nicky as a nickname

pinkdelight · 26/04/2026 22:46

Nice. Never met a bad one. Same with Ben/Benjamin or Chris/Christopher. Seem to turn out as sound fellers.

patooties · 26/04/2026 23:02

Gorgeous- I like Nicky too.

Good name.

I’ve got a Nicholas (known as Nick), not aware he’s had any Nasty Nick names (see what I did there? Grin)

SwedishEdith · 27/04/2026 13:21

It always gets a positive reaction on names threads. Nicks are always popular in the office.

BillieWiper · 27/04/2026 13:42

I don't love it. It sounds sharp. Like 'nick' as in to cut yourself. And Nicholas sounds a bit too formal and a bit pompous. Nicky sounds babyish or feminine. Like I think Nick is better. I do actually not mind it as a girls name. It's not bad though.

See my MN pen name 😄

LilyLemonade · 27/04/2026 19:40

I love it though I prefer the full form Nicholas.

Calliopespa · 28/04/2026 22:25

Knicker-less (See what I did there!)

(Sorry, has to be said on every Nicholas thread.)

I like it op.

lingmerth · 28/04/2026 22:53

We have a son of the same name. Long name on the birth certificate but known as Nick from the day he was born. No nicknames ever from his pals. He’s 35 now!

Woodfiresareamazing2 · 28/04/2026 23:08

Love it.
Full disclosure: youngest son is a Nicholas. Also known as Nick or Nico.

Rhibledd · 29/04/2026 06:43

Love Nicholas/Nick. I also like Andrew but not keen on Andy
