It's outside my normal comfort zone, (too informal/short-namey for me) so not one I'd use myself, but quite sweet.

Calliopespa · 24/04/2026 17:23

What about short for Thomasina?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 24/04/2026 17:25

I know one. She is almost always called 'Maisy' by people who hear her name but don't see it written down. That's my only comment.

SabbatWheel · 24/04/2026 17:30

Taught quite a few girls named Macy / Macey (nearly all the latter spelling).
None of them were particularly likeable, unfortunately, so it’s a name with negative connotations for me.

7238SM · 24/04/2026 17:35

I think of the singer Macy Gray and can't stand her scratchy/raspy voice. I also don't like the sound 'Macy'. Not sure if its too short or because it reminds me of mousey or racy.

Beachwalker66 · 24/04/2026 17:40

Makes me think of the shop

Elizabeta · 24/04/2026 17:47

It’s… fine. But of all the thousands of names out there, I can’t imagine a scenario in which it’s the best.

Needmorelego · 24/04/2026 17:58

I like it.
I know one girl named Macy (she's about 8 ish).
It's a name I include in my list of "perfectly normal names".

What shop?

ThatGreenFawn · 24/04/2026 17:59

Quite popular, I know of 5, aged between 3 and 11.

Me too, but I love her voice!

What shop?

Macy’s 🤣

What shop?

Department store in New York.

A bit like Selfridges.

Thinking of that actually puts me off it OP.

What about Maisie?

Oh I have heard of Macy's the department store but as a Brit living in the UK I don't think it's exactly something people most Brits would think of 🤷

No I didn't immediately think of it either. But when someone mentioned it, it reminded me and I did then think it is a bit like being called Harvey-Nichola!

monicagellerbing · 24/04/2026 19:49

I have a Macy. My advice is if you can tolerate having to constantly correct people who call her Maisie then go for it.

I love the name but had I realised it’s a lifetime of correcting people, first for me then for her as she grows, I’d have chosen something else!

namesnamesnames28 · 24/04/2026 20:10

Ah the correcting for Maisie does put me off.

i love Maisie but my husband had a bulldog called Maisie growing up annoyingly so it’s ruined the name for him - thought this might work as an alternate!

Firebird83 · 24/04/2026 20:10

Maisie is nicer. Macy makes me think of mace.

AutumnClouds · 24/04/2026 20:14

I love Macy, I think it would suit any personality, could be girly or cool or bookish or sporty, somehow fits any of them really well. Much nicer than Maisie. (And I love Macy Gray, and didn’t think of the shop)

Hivemindz4 · 24/04/2026 21:08

A bit too American for me (I first came across it on Teen Mom US so I really associate it with that). Shame as in terms of the sounds it is quite nice.

emeraldrainbow · 24/04/2026 21:50

I think it’s cute! If you like it, go for it. I’ve heard of a few girls with this name.

NorthFacingGardener · 24/04/2026 21:53

I know a Marcey (short for Marcella) which is quite sweet.

Don’t love Macey.. Mace isn’t the nicest word, and as mentioned, confusion with Maisie.

Giraffehaver · 24/04/2026 22:21

I prefer Marcy or Marcia tbh

user1492757084 · Yesterday 07:17

Why not name her after the bulldog?

Better story and better name.

Maisie.

Mary - Molly, May, Maisie .. nick names.
