Fidelma, Concepta and Incarnita were all names I knew from growing up in Belfast in the 70s. And Markievicz I heard too. Jesus, you would get so tired of spelling that out multiple times in a lifetime.

I raise you Immaculata, Attracta, Perpetua.

Fanny

This was always a nickname for Frances and Francesca.

Jill, Sandra, Carol, Susan, Linda, Jackie, Joanne were all the names I was at school
with. Hard to imagine them becoming popular again.

I love the name Margaret and considered it for my DD. I met a baby Dorothy recently too which I thought was gorgeous. But then I love classic names rather than the new ‘modern’ ones

Ditto. I think Margaret will become less unpopular, if not very popular. Mrs Thatcher dealt it a death blow but those of us who lived through her years as PM are getting old now. Like Myra, it's never dropped out of favour as much on the other side of the Atlantic because they don't have the same associations with it.

Interesting that various names derived from Margaret are all doing well - Daisy, Peggy, Margo, Margot, Maggie. Even Marjorie has been mentioned approvingly on this thread. Meg is nice. Maybe there's hope yet for Margarita, Marguerite, Rita and Greta. Possibly not Margie, which was what my Grandma's sisters called her, or Marge, which for me evokes margarine and The Simpsons.

Linda, Christine, Sharon, Tracy, Denise, Susan.

Maybe they’re another generation away. I never thought I’d see baby Ivy, Agnes, Alma and Maud, but they’re all here!

Angela
Maud
Freda
Nora

Nora is really popular.

As I said earlier in the thread - Freda is making a return with a Scandi vibe - Frida.

I’m not sure Sonya and Tonia belong in that list. They’ve never really been popular in the UK, have they?

I'm shocked there are some children with the name Agnes.
It's the name of an older relative of mine. She has always disliked her name & also the nickname Aggie. She was named after an Aunt. The rest of us felt sorry for her and were also relieved, we didnt have that name.

I knew an Agnes, she didn't like her name so she spelt it backwards and became Senga!

Reportingfromwherever · Today 08:43

I’m a Nicola Louise and I’ve hated my names forever. There are just so many of us that it’s not even outing to post this 😂 I was desperate to be called something more exotic when I was a child….. I really wanted to be called Liesl as I loved the Sound of music!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · Today 08:45

My middle daughter was nearly Agnes and she's 34 now! A few years ago I would have taken bets on Ada never coming back and yet - here it is on every second girl. I think Brenda might be a hard sell, but given my track record, who knows?

Exactly what I came here to say. Unfortunately, Fanny has had her day..:

Fanny being short for Frances which I think is a lovely name, but sadly Fanny has other conotations.

Firebird83 · Today 08:47

I can see these coming back soon:

Hilda - similar in sound to Tilda / Matilda
Irene - similar to Iris and Ivy
Vera
Alma
Enid - similar to Edith and Edie
Celia
Sylvia
Freda - especially with the Frida spelling
Joan and Jean - particularly as Joanie and Jeanie
Gloria
Esther
June
Gwen
Jane - Janie

I already know girls called Alma, Celia, Frida, Joni, Janie, Gwen, Gloria and Esther

Agnes to me has always been a very old lady name. A neighbour who seemed 150 when I was a child was called Agnes so I’ve always associated it with being very old. Her sister was called Mary, but I didn’t see it in the same way for some reason. I’ve got more used to people using it now, seems quite a middle class choice today.

I can’t see Janet or Janice making a come back.

I like Lettice but people can’t pronounce it correctly.

My friend called his daughter Lettice and I pronounced it Let - tice and was corrected by him, apparently it is pronounced same as the vegetable.

I hope those posting these lists of names that will never come back live to be eighty . They'll see how wrong they were!

I know a 12yo Ursula.

I went through a stage in my late teens/early 20s of loving the name because I was obsessed with D H Lawrences books, The Rainbow and Women in Love. Had I had a baby girl then I’d probably have called her Ursula 🤦‍♀️😯

I know a 12yo Ursula.

Always popular in the Irish Catholic community in 60s/70s as it’s a saints name.

I do think Agnes / Aggie is an ugly name but seen a few girls called by Spanish version Inés which I think is pretty

I think I’m wrong about how to pronounce Lettice! I like how I pronounce it, but it’s obviously wrong.
