I bizarrely know 3 under 10s with variations of Euphemia - Effie, Phemie & Effie-May, which I would never have thought would come back.
defo no more:
Fanny
Bertha
Dick
Percy

bizarrely, my granny, born in 1916, always described Laura as an “old lady name”

Fanny

My dad had a mate called Fanny, Fanny B. He was really called Francis.

Diedre... surely Corrie has put the nail in the coffin... and Mavis

Mildred, Maud & Enid have all been mentioned, they make me think of The Worst Witch and are pretty cool. My cheeky, smart & stubborn dog has one of those names and she's adorable 😂

Anna-Marie or Anne-Marie

Agnes, particularly with French pronunciation, is beautiful and chic. Gorgeous and timeless name.

My nan was Ethel, she’d be 108 the other day, my other nan was Bertha

Seems Mavis is having a resurgence though. Some of my friends and acquaintances are having grandkids and I know 2 recent Mavis’s and one of those is not the only one in her class on starting school. There are also quite a few Mabel’s.

I also know a few Agnes’s being born/young kids, a Victoria recently, 2 Flora’s, a Vera and a Velmay just off the top of my head on names I have clocked as a resurgence from my grandmothers generation (she was born 1901).

I know babies named Joan, Barbara, and Dawn.

I'd say Noreen, Doreen, Aideen, Maureen, Sheila, Deirdre have very little chance of returning.

I think makes like this rather than the ones up thread will take a while to come back.

Add Gemma, Stacey, Tracey, Sharon, Colette, Bernardette (any other names ending in 'ette'), Coleen, Charmaine. But they might eventually.

I don't think Fanny will ever shake the slang reference though.

We have quite a few little Marjories over here.

Althea is lovely and very much in line with what people like these days.

I don't think Winifred ever completely went away.

I think the names of my generation like Laura, Gemma, are close to being the Sharon and Tracy of our time and might take a while to come back. I'm a Laura and I hate it.

I love the name Margaret and considered it for my DD. I met a baby Dorothy recently too which I thought was gorgeous. But then I love classic names rather than the new ‘modern’ ones

For children reading the books now it wouldn't even be understood that these were chosen as odd, old-fashioned and even 'witchy' names - as they are probably more current sounding that the popular girls names of the 70s (when the books were written)
