What’s your thoughts on s boys names can anyone help? I like

sean
simon
sonny
shane
shai
Sylvester lol but no one else does
any thoughts on these? Are the popular? Rubbish?

our surname begins with s and thought it would be nice

if it were a girl we’d probably have gone with summer or shania however just had boy confirmed at 20 weeks

l I also like A names
so any boys that begin with a A

oh and I prefer names that are not in the top 100 as I work in a school and am put off many popular names

When you say Shai, do you mean Shay? Which is traditionally short for Seamus…

Unnecessaryletter · 18/04/2026 20:13

Saul

PinkPonyAnonymous · 18/04/2026 20:14

Have you considered that this child’s initials will be SS? That’s a strong choice that he might hate you for and will certainly raise some eyebrows.

MannequinsArePeopleToo · 18/04/2026 20:14

Acquaintances called their son Shai and pronounce it “Shy”. Awful name to burden someone with.

Sonny v popular

Sean and Shane are my favourites.

thewonderfulmrswatson · 18/04/2026 20:20

My nephews are Stanley and Arthur. Always like classic names. My eldest is called Henry (he's 23 this year) and I still have no regrets despite people telling me it was "an old mans name".

Spencer

I always liked Sylvester, but what put me off was that it's a mouthful to use all the time, but what nickname would you use for it? Sil sounds girly to me, Silly obviously is a no go, Vester even worse... If you figure out a good one let me know!

@PinkPonyAnonymouslike Steven Spielberg?

Fair. He carried it well.

However, I do think it’s a legitimate concern. At all places I have ever worked my initials have formed part of my email. Kind of awkward to be [email protected]

LumpySpaceCow · 18/04/2026 20:49

Sullivan (Sully for short!)
