I have narrowed down my top 5

Opinions please...

  1. Matilda
  2. Emily
  3. Violet
  4. Lauren
  5. Erin

I have time to change my mind but these are the names I love. Any suggestions welcome. I do like old lady names too but some are just a bit too dated but let's have em...

Matilda/Erin or Emily for me

am just not as fussed on Violet or Lauren - nothing wrong with them or offensive about them just a bit blah!

what about

Esme
Elsa
Pearl
Martha
Beatrice nn Bea
Cecelia/Celia nn Cece

for old lady names?

well done you for having a list - I haven't even got THAT far lol

GreenGodess · 19/06/2008 18:06

Erin or Violet for me - Emily way to popular and Matilida not keen

littleboyblue · 19/06/2008 18:07

Love Cecelia. I quite like Violet too. I have a friend called Pearl. Don't like Matilda much but Emily ok too

youcannotbeserious · 19/06/2008 18:08

Erin or emily for me.

In fact, I'd probably use Emily if I were ever lucky enough to have a girl.

Matilda and Erin

greenelizabeth · 19/06/2008 18:22
  1. Matilda - I like this one.
  2. Emily - I like it but I am turned off slightly by the fact that it was the number one name. If that doesn't bother you at all, then I think it is the prettiest name on your list.
  3. Violet - I like this.
  4. Lauren - I aint bovered about Lauren!! What about Laurel. WIth an L. Prettier, bit fresher.
  5. Erin - I do not like this. It is very American even though I know it is a simplification of Eireann. Are you Irish? I don't know. Bit like calling somebody English. Now, Hibernia or Caledonia would be interesting!?

Any takers?

I keep changing my mind, so given that I just read Britney's little sister has had a girl, I'm going to leave it up to fate, whatever she calls her LO will be the name for my baby girl... Sensible or what! haha

greeny - shall add caledonia to list this instant

controlfreakyagain · 19/06/2008 18:25

i heard she's named it gertrude.... will that do you?

GruffaloSoldier · 19/06/2008 18:39

She has called the baby Maddie Briann according to people.com

Nancy66 · 19/06/2008 19:55

I love Matilda, Violet and Erin. Lauren is (I think) a bit common and Emily is just a bit too ordinary for me.

2point4kids · 19/06/2008 19:56

Violet is by far the best imo
Really like Matilda and Pearl too

SoupDragon · 19/06/2008 19:58

Erin
Emily

Hulababy · 19/06/2008 19:59

Matilda is my favourite from your list. Emily 2nd.

Matilda or Erin for me

pointydog · 19/06/2008 21:34

I know someone called Caledonia

twosofar · 19/06/2008 21:55

IMHO
Matilda - very pretty
Emily - too commonly used,a bit blah
Violet -gorgeous
Lauren - a bit Vicky Pollard
Erin - too American (unless you are)

ScummyMummy · 19/06/2008 22:00

Don't mind Matilda or Emily. Violet always feels like it's missing an 'n' to me. Lauren and Erin- not for me.

hayley2u · 19/06/2008 22:42

erin my dd was going to be called erin she has it as a double barralled first name and we spelt it erinn

mummyto2littleprincess · 20/06/2008 00:39

Lauren is the only 1 i really like the others are bit too old fashioned

every1 whats the matter with the name lauren

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 20/06/2008 01:02

Matilda - like it but do think of the Roald Dahl book/film

Emily - if you don't mind her being the sixth one in her class, honestly just about every second girl round here is either Emma or Emily

Violet - ok, if it suits her when born, think its quite individual.

Lauren - i actually like it as i think of Lauren Bacall, very cool and attractive. Not ralph lauren, not cool.

Erin - seems to be catching up on Emily/Emma/Amy in the popularity stakes. I do like it tho. Would go for this or Lauren myself.

Try not to get too set on one name, its amazing how once they arrive you just KNOW they are/are not XXX name.

AbbeyA · 20/06/2008 07:24

Matilda and Emily but not the rest.
