A sibling for Freya

Tellmetomorrow57 · 13/04/2026 11:14

Looking for some potential matches to go with Freya. We chose this when it wasn't quite as popular, but still love it!

We've ruled out loads of names for various reasons and I know that sibsets don't have to 'match', but we're struggling to land on a shortlist!

Don't know the sex of the baby yet, so boy or girl name suggestions welcome!

Thank you.

My best friend has just had twins- Tess and Benjamin, so I have to rule those out even though I love them!

Thank you for the suggestions!

I had never considered Eric, but I love.

I went with the slightly Nordic or Germanic theme as well and googled about a bit and there's actually a Mumsnet Baby Name Inspiration page for those sorts of names.

Of course, with Eric there's also Erica or Erika for a girl and one that was on there that I'd completely forgotten about but then remembered as being the name of David Niven's wife was Hjordis. (Heeordis.)A Swedish friend of Ingrid Bergman. So those two names are Nordic crossed with old Hollywood.

Then there's Greta like Garbo but also Greta Thunberg. Which could be either a good reference or a bad one, depending on your point of view.

Why are boys names more difficult?

Ingrid is growing on me but obviously, not my baby.

In summary:

Ingrid
Hjordis
Erika.

You said that you quite liked Astrid so Ingrid is similar.

Freya and...

Willow
Phoebe
Lara
Elspeth
Romy

Ivo
Myles
Oscar
Alexander
Barnaby

MiaKulper · 13/04/2026 20:51

Hjördis is quite tricky - it's more like Zhoardiss

Mumsnet baby name inspiration pages are not reliable - the Welsh one was abysmal when I looked at it.

Oh thank you, that's a really interesting post. I didn't know about the inspiration page.

I do also like Ingrid and Erica (I think Stranger Things might be an influence there too!)

I just feel like there's more girls names that I'm inclined to say "I like that and can see myself using it"

I've been writing them all down in a notebook with our surname and practising saying them 🤣

It's rather snazzy though. Maybe a good name for a very high maintenance animal. Hjordis the Reindeer.

Out of left field here but for a boy:
Conrad.
Freya and Conrad.

Roman?

Tellmetomorrow57 · 13/04/2026 23:22

Oooh Conrad. That was his name in normal people wasn't it? And Marianne...

I think some of these might be a bit too much for Liverpool, I do like Astrid though!

as a scouse girl this comment really made me laugh 😆
NOTHING is too much for Liverpool 🤪

I like Flynn, but there's just too many varieties of Eve/Eva/Evie for my liking.

True, what do you think of Elsie? Also Athena would go really well with Freya.

I like it too but the ö will be problematic. I like Åse but the Å won't be easy.

Ingrid or Caspian
