Thoughts on the name Luca?

I think it is a lovely name, as long as you or child is Italian.

SeaDragon17 · 12/04/2026 18:52

My name is Luca….🎤

If it’s part of your heritage I’d say objectively it’s a nice name. If it isn’t then it’s a bit pretentious / reminds me of the song.

HollyGolightly4 · 12/04/2026 19:48

It's a lovely name and I know lots of Luca's who are not of Italian heritage.

I don't really see why it needs to be if you are of Italian heritage - names such as Louis, Sofia, Isabella and Leila are all common in the UK and have roots elsewhere!

user2848502016 · 12/04/2026 19:58

I like it, nicer than Luke or Lucas

BeaPerry · 12/04/2026 20:01

Luca lives on the second floor, I think Luca is having a hard time up there 😢

curlyfriess · 12/04/2026 20:17

I love it. It's certainly popular enough that you don't need Italian heritage to use it - like many, many other names that are popular in the UK and are originally from elsewhere.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 12/04/2026 20:27

For a boy or girl?

flagpolesitta · 12/04/2026 20:29

I think it’s really popular now isn’t it, top 10. I like it though.

I was just going to say the origin is Italian...

What's the song?

Execrgybjkkbgdsxhutdc · 12/04/2026 20:42

I really like it but it is really popular.

It’s too popular for anyone to care about heritage.

featherwing · 12/04/2026 20:44

I think it's nice and I'm half Italian and I don't think you need to be Italian to use it.

Tryingtobenormal124 · 12/04/2026 20:45

Its lovely 😍

Hatty65 · 12/04/2026 20:46

I was going to ask if you lived 'on the 2nd floor'.

If you lived through the 80s I don't think you'd be thinking of using Luca for a name. It's a Suzanne Vega song.

101Alsatians · 12/04/2026 20:47

I have one!Lovely name, suits for all ages IMO

Fishingboatbobbingnight · 12/04/2026 20:47

A really sad song about child abuse by Susan Vega

My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes, I think you've seen me before
If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble, some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
I think it's 'cause I'm clumsy
I try not to talk too loud
Maybe it's because I'm crazy
I try not to act too proud
They only hit until you cry
After that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
Just don't argue anymore
Just don't argue anymore
Yes, I think I'm okay
I walked into the door again
Well, if you ask that's what I'll say
It's not your business anyway
I guess I'd like to be alone
With nothing broken, nothing thrown
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am
My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes, I think you've seen me before
If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble, some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Only hit until you cry
After that, you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore

Nervousmummy2 · 12/04/2026 20:48

You certainly don’t need to be Italian to use it

NormasArse · 12/04/2026 20:49

I thought it was about DV.

OldHattie · 12/04/2026 20:52

It's fine. Not horrible, not amazing, just ok (to me).

It is a bit tainted for me by some kids in a school I used to work in. Two of the worst behaved kids were called Luca; just by bizarre coincidence, as I definitely do not think of it as a "naughty boy name". One had Italian heritage but the other did not AFAIK

Newgolddream70 · 12/04/2026 20:57

I’m sat watching The Cleaning Lady on Netflix and the little boy in it is called Luca. Love the name but I do hear Suzanne Vega in my head every time someone says it.

HollyGolightly4 · 12/04/2026 20:57

Thanks for the song reference, i normally know a wide range of music but I've never heard of that one!

MiaKulper · 12/04/2026 20:58

Faddy

rwalker · 12/04/2026 21:01

Can’t stand it but just as well my opinion counts for nothing

the only person who has to be happy with it is you

BecauseofyouIlearntnottotrust · 12/04/2026 21:04

I instantly thought of Luka Kovac. I may be showing my age.

I like it, and agree it is simple and international enough you don't need Italian heritage to pull it off - provided you don't intend to adopt a heavy Italian accent when you say it. I know the (English) mother of a Leonardo who lapses into a heavy Lay - uh - nAARrrrR-DOH every time she refers to him, which gets a bit much.
