Really struggling with boys names. My partner loves Woody and I’m trying to get on board. I think it’s cute but I don’t LOVE it yet..
How do people feel about it??

we don’t know the gender yet! 😁

I think it’s silly, I’m sorry. Toy Story.

dotdotdotdash · 11/04/2026 23:22

It’s the name of the main character from Toy Story, it sounds childish and American. It’s a no from me.

Miranda65 · 11/04/2026 23:22

It's a nickname, not a proper name.
Can you imagine a 50 year old Woody?

Giftspread · 11/04/2026 23:22

Poor kid.

AmberSpy · 11/04/2026 23:24

I'm sure I've heard woody used as slang for an erection... It's an absolutely dreadful name, sorry.

Tanyya · 11/04/2026 23:24

No.
Nickname is ok but definitely not a first name, secondary school peers will rip him apart.

Babies have a sex, not a gender.
I quite like the name Woody.

Aur0raAustralis · 11/04/2026 23:25

It's also slang for an erection where I am. I really wouldn't use it.

MaxiMoomins · 11/04/2026 23:25

Yes. Yes I can

Woodrow and shorten to Woody.

Neodymium · 11/04/2026 23:27

I’ve heard of Woods as the name and then Woody as the nickname.

snowibunni · 11/04/2026 23:28

Woody's fine, there's quite a few, including Fat Boy Slim and Zoe Balls son who is in his 20s

SpringAndSunshineIsHere · 11/04/2026 23:29

Nooooo. It means erection. Don’t do that to your kid!

Treadcarefully11 · 11/04/2026 23:33

Appalling choice. Don’t even consider it.

Why would you ask for thoughts if you didn’t really want people’s thoughts?!

Posters come to this section for honest opinions that they won’t get in real life (as friends and family don’t want to be brutal and tell the truth of what everyone is thinking).

Don’t like it, off you trot to NetMums or BabesHuns or SnakesEveryWhereChumJustMeandtheKidsForevva

MaxiMoomins · 11/04/2026 23:40

Calm down dear.

I’m entitled to my opinion in the same way all the **s are 😏

Agree with those saying its slang for an erection - don't do it OP.

TomatoSandwiches · 11/04/2026 23:43

I like Woodrow, shame Woody Allen uses it though.

sesquipedalian · 11/04/2026 23:43

OP, you are entitled to your opinion, but I don’t think you’ll be doing your offspring any favours, naming him after (at best) an animated toy cowboy…

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 11/04/2026 23:44

I have a woody. His name is actually Woodward. It’s never been referenced to an erection ffs. He’s 13 now and his friends call him woody. No dramas. When I was in all saints buying myself a leather jacket and hugely pregnant a customer asked me what the baby was, what the name was etc. I said woody and she said she was also pregnant and wanted to call her baby woody. Fab name x

SpringAndSunshineIsHere · 11/04/2026 23:45

What other names do you both like op?

SmoothCollie · 11/04/2026 23:45

It's a nice name. If you're having a labrador.
