Sibling for Melody

Chamallo · 25/03/2026 15:55

I have a Melody and pregnant with our second. Don’t know the sex yet so boys or girls name ideas welcome. I think boys name will be the most difficult for us.

Girls names I’m generally open minded on but don’t like the -ias (Olivia, Emilia, Sophia, etc.). Boys names we both really like Romeo and Leonardo, but I think they’re probably a bit much to lump a baby with.

We liked Melody because it’s pretty international, the meaning is special to us, and it’s a recognizable name but not extremely common. I like the 70s vibe.

I know people here will say Melody is chavvy or whatever but I really don’t care about that kind of thing. I would be open to pretty unusual names as we live/work in a very international community and hear all sorts. (I know a Twinkle and a Donatello, which I think are both great).

Arno or Arlo? Bit less heavy handed than multiple syllables

Aria if you want the musical theme?

GoldenPineapple15 · 25/03/2026 17:56

Cadence for a girl to match the music theme . I teach a lovely girl called Cadence and have always liked this name .

NigellaDelia · 25/03/2026 18:09

Cecilia is the patron saint of music so that would make a lovely pairing with Melody

Celia as a shortened version. I think it's quite international too

Sorry, I've just remembered you said no names ending in ia ~ please ignore my suggestion

I like Melody, it’s pretty & not too usual.

This may or may not be an issue but if you call the new baby River you’ll get a lot of questions about whether they’re both inspired by the Dr Who character River Song, aka Melody Pond.

Ah good point! I stopped watching before that season so didn’t even make the Melody connection till after we’d named her.

Chorus. Obviously.

Hotdayinjuly · 25/03/2026 19:51

Lovely name. Makes me think of ‘The Queen’s Nose’ I think her sister was Harmony which is probably a bit much.

Valentino/Valentina, Raphael, Seraphina, Precious and Cassius all came to mind.

Creamcrackeredknackered · 25/03/2026 19:53

I've not heard of Melody as a name before but it's gorgeous!
Rowan and River both have the same flowy kind of feel.
Faye is a favourite girl name for me, I think it goes with Melody too.

thinkofsomethingdifferent · 25/03/2026 20:14

I know a Melody who’s sister was Lyric and her brother was a Maverick Confused

RubyBirdy · 25/03/2026 20:23

I went to school with two sisters called Melody and Harmony and the sea of Louise’s, Sarah’s and Rachel’s were all quite envious of their names!

I think Harmony is lovely but I couldn’t pair it with Melody because it reminds me of The Queen’s Nose where Harmony is always in golden child Melody’s shadow.
Lyric seems to balance that out though - it works better as a trio than a pair.

The Queen's Nose???

Has to be Harmony.

Lorenzo is a great one that I hadn’t thought of before. I’ve always liked Laurence but DP vetoed, so it’d be a nice way to get the Laurie nickname.
