Blossom

Is it that bad? I really like it, and I've tried it on a few people and they've seemed to like it too. I know of a 3 year old one and she suits it and gets called Bloss. My DH likes it but thinks it's too risky as it's so girly and a bit marmite so she might not like it.
I personally don't think it sounds more girly than Rosie, Poppy etc which are all popular, but I appreciate it is more unusual. I don't really care about the TV series, I didnt see it and kids these days won't know it.

I know 2 one is 19 and the other is 21 and both mixed Chinese/English.

I love Meadow but dhs cousin has a Meadow. I quite like Posy but think it might have the same issue as Blossom.
Lavender is nice, but maybe a bit too much.

I think it's a pretty name and I think it's fine for a little girl or an adult woman to have a pretty name.

DrowningNotWaveing · 25/03/2026 16:42

Awful
Bloss is worse

Bowling4soup · 25/03/2026 16:43

I love it! Can’t think of a nice nickname though.

Lola? That’s my name if I ever had a girl (had 2 boys)

Wynter25 · 25/03/2026 16:44

Love it

DramaAlpaca · 25/03/2026 16:47

I'm sorry OP, but it's horrendous.

Posy is very sweet and a traditional diminutive for Josephine.

Primrose? I don't like it myself, but it's better than Blossom.

Oh, just thought... you don't happen to have Irish connections do you? Bláthnaid (BLAW-nid) is pretty and means 'little flower'. The one I know goes by Bonnie sometimes.

NarnianQueen · 25/03/2026 16:48

Try introducing yourself as Blossom for a week and see how it feels

cramptramp · 25/03/2026 16:48

I used to know someone called Blossom about 50 years ago. She was very exotic looking so it suited her.

honeyhoneymoons · 25/03/2026 16:49

As someone who was named BLOSSOM by their hippy mother I urge you to avoid it. It was cute when I was little but when I moved away to university I used a different name of my choosing. I couldn’t face being 18 and introducing myself as Blossom. I couldn’t even use my middle names because they are even bloody worse.

ToadRage · 25/03/2026 16:51

I would only ever name an animal Blossom its not appropriate for a human.

CeciliaMars · 25/03/2026 16:52

I like it!

JuliettaCaeser · 25/03/2026 16:53

Are you mid pregnancy? I came up with some properly mad names at that stage. My now late teens are horrified by what they were near called!

Laiste · 25/03/2026 16:54

I like it - named a guinea pig it.

Not for a child though.

Terrribletwos · 25/03/2026 16:56

Dartania · 25/03/2026 15:19

Dreadful, unless a baby cow.

Agree, sounds like a milking cow of yesteryear. Rose is nice.

Laiste · 25/03/2026 16:56

Have it as a second name OP.
First name Peach or Cherry ...

(lighthearted suggestion)

Wishimaywishimight · 25/03/2026 16:58

Would you like to be called Blossom? Can you imagine sitting in a doctor's waiting room and hear them call out "Blossom Peters"? I would be embarrassed tbh although I guess you'd get used to it.

I'm curious as to what could be worse 😆

pambeesleyhalpert · 25/03/2026 17:01

My bestie is pregnant with a girl and she’s calling her blossom! Blossy as a NN- I LOVE it

FlatErica · 25/03/2026 17:01

I love it. But then I also like Blossom Dearie. I think it depends on your surname. Blossom Sidebottom would be grim.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 25/03/2026 17:04

Lavender, Posy, Amaryllis, Veronica, Iris, Cherry, Jessamine, Laurel, Garance, Rhodanthe, Hortensia (one of my favourite names), Hebe, Dahlia, May, Linden, Willow, Primrose, Ivy, Holly . . .

all lovely names that are flowers, trees or plants.

NOT BLOSSOM

I sometimes think parents let rip with the middle names. My first name is the dullest you could imagine. My middle name is completely out there.

clarepetal · 25/03/2026 17:06

I love it too!

mazedasamarchhare · 25/03/2026 17:11

Bloss will become Blossy which sounds like Bossy. Great name for a goat, cow, chicken not so much for a human!
if you want something flowery and unusual then:
Daphney
Peony
Camellia
Clematis
Zinnia

ginasevern · 25/03/2026 17:11

I like the name OP but agree with others, it won't suit an adult woman. And honestly Bloss is horrible. When's the baby due? If April, then how about that if you wanted a spring name. Otherwise for less used floral names how about Heather, Jasmine, Hazel or Briar.
