Expecting our baby in a few weeks. Unsure of which middle name to choose so throwing it out to the MN opinion. All have a family connection.

I voted for Zoe Catherine, but they are all lovely. I think it would depend which flows best with the surname.

Louise is a very traditional middle, but it's pretty with Zoe. Elizabeth is gorgeous but I feel the end of Zoe runs into the beginning of Elizabeth. I went for Catherine because it's my favourite of the three names and flows beautifully.

Zoe Louise sounds very 1970s.

ByZingyMauveReader · 20/03/2026 09:13

Laura.

Pettenell · 20/03/2026 09:51

Zoe Elizabeth doesn't flow very well, and Louise is over-used in the middle. Catherine is a gorgeous name and perfect with Zoe.

Newthreadnewme11 · 20/03/2026 09:58

Zoe Claire?

Radiostar0 · 20/03/2026 10:38

Zoe Catherine or Zoe Elizabeth. Louise is a very overused middle name (trust me) haha

herebehippos · 20/03/2026 10:44

They all too long and are too 80s/ 90s.
Jane, May, Jade, Beth all work better. Short names are what is needed!

AddictedToBooks · 20/03/2026 10:51

I love Zoe Elizabeth.
My sister is called Zoe Leanne and always wanted Elizabeth as a middle name (but I'm older and got that middle name instead - it's a family name for us too)

NamingNoNames · 20/03/2026 10:55

@herebehippos , Totally disagree. Jane and May are filler middle names, and Jade and Beth are dated.
One syllable middle names have a 'Sammy-Jo' or 'Peggy Sue' vibe, and it's a baby not a doll.

Zoe is short so can take a long middle name

Toomuchprivateinfo · 20/03/2026 11:24

Elizabeth is the only one I like out of those but I don’t think it works as you have two “ee” sounds next to each other at the end of Zoe and the start of Elizabeth which makes it a bit of a mouthful.

Is there a family name you could use? Personally I think middle names are a bit pointless if they don’t have meaning.

It definitely was for us girls born in the late 70s and early 80s, but I don’t think Louise is overused now (although sounds very blah to me, being from that generation).

It's not 2 'ee' sounds.

The OP said they're all family names.

NamingNoNames · 20/03/2026 11:39

@Toomuchprivateinfo , it was overused in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. It's a lovely name but there's a strong risk of there being quite a few middle-aged Zoe Louises.

It's not 2 'ee' sounds.

Ok if you’re being pedantic the second isn’t quite an “ee” sound, but very similar and still makes it a combination that doesn’t flow well.

NamingNoNames · 20/03/2026 11:48

It's only a middle name and the full name usually isn't used much. I'm not being pedantic because, as far as I know, nobody says Ee-lizabeth.

Zoe Louise flows the best but it's so many women's middle name that it's been ruined.

It’s pedantic to say they’re not two “ee” sounds in the context of my post. Whilst that’s technically correct, the actual point which still stands regardless of pedantry is that it’s two very similar sounds one after the other, meaning the names don’t flow well.

NamingNoNames · 20/03/2026 14:23

All the names are fine and I happen to think Elizabeth is fine as a middle name for Zoe. It's got the most votes so I am not alone.

She'll be Zoe Tail most of the time.

I love Zoe Catherine best.
I also like Zoe Louise and Zoe Louisa

Zoe Elizabeth is lovely but I would prefer it not to look like
ZOE E Surname.

NamingNoNames · 21/03/2026 10:14

Zoe Louisa does sound nice.
ZOE E Surname - good point!

parabollix · 21/03/2026 10:39

Honestly, I wouldn’t give a child the name Zoe. I’ve always disliked it. I think it sounds awkward.

I wish I had realised at a much earlier age how easy it is to deed poll and get it changed. I’m 60, though, and it’s a bit late now.

MermaidofRye · 21/03/2026 10:43

I like Zoe Louise. If I wasn't tied to your three choices, I'd go for Zoe Anne
