This is our shortlist of names for our second boy due next month - which do you prefer? We’re not set on middle names but thinking either Quinn or James as a middle name or both!

Ezra
Oliver
Zach
Leo
Luca or Lucas can’t decide which I prefer!

Leo.

Calliopespa · 05/03/2026 12:40

I think they all work ok. Maybe Leo?

I prefer Luca to Lucas.

Cocktailsandcheese · 05/03/2026 12:45

I think Oliver works best, but they're all great names

RapunzelHadExtensions · 05/03/2026 13:07

Love the name Rory and would have chosen it for DD (Matilda). I think Oliver goes best!

traveltraveltravel78 · 05/03/2026 13:19

Ezra James Quinn

BeaLola · 05/03/2026 13:22

Leo

Misspacorabanne · 05/03/2026 13:34

I too have a Rory! On your list, I’d go with Zach or Oliver! Both nice strong names!

Arlanymor · 05/03/2026 13:38

If I had been a boy I would have been Rhodri James!

I think Oliver is gorgeous.

NamingNoNames · 05/03/2026 14:16

Oliver - best
Leo - lovely
Zach - I prefer Zac short for Zachary
Ezra - ok
Luca or Lucas - Not keen but Luke is nice

James is a filler middle name and will be the middle name of any other Oliver/Ezra/Leo/Luca...

Quinn - can't unsee Quim.

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/03/2026 14:23

Zach.

Julesni77 · 05/03/2026 14:24

Aiden James goes lovely with Rory

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/03/2026 14:31

I like Ezra Quinn best followed by Lucas James

NamingNoNames · 05/03/2026 15:55

I'd pick one of the unused first names as a middle name.

ThatMintMember · 05/03/2026 16:31

I like Zach best for with Rory because it's only one syllable. You could also use one of the other names as a middle name like Zach Leo or Zach Ezra. I love James as a middle name as it's my sons middle name but Leo or Ezra would be great middle names too :)

NamingNoNames · 05/03/2026 16:43

Which first name goes best with the surname, @Charmainebelle ?
Don't add the middle name when you try them out because middle names don't get used much.

Bear in mind that all the names are popular and something like Oliver James Smith might result in an exact duplication.

BoleynMemories13 · 05/03/2026 16:46

I like Leo but Rory and Leo is a bit lion themed as a sibset.

Lucas is my favourite and Ezra the least favourite of the list but all are quite nice choices really. Personally I would use Zachary nn Zach, rather than Zach as a stand alone name, but obviously it's up to you.

RuthW · 05/03/2026 17:02

From your list, my favourite is Lucas James Quinn. (Cass for short)

mathanxiety · 05/03/2026 20:34

Leo or Oliver.

Alternatives -
Fergus
Fintan
Darragh
Myles
Declan
Arran
Euan
Kieran

Giraffehaver · 05/03/2026 23:05

Leo is perfect...a lion duo!

mumwithallthebooks · 06/03/2026 02:27

I like Ezra, Zach or Oliver - lovely names

BigFishLittleFishCardboardBoxes · 06/03/2026 08:13

I think Ezra and Luca go with Rory. Oliver is overused to the point where it feels like there are several in every class.

Snoozlepops · 06/03/2026 08:25

The Rory I know has a brother called Kit (short for Christopher).

They are all popular. I know more little Ezras than Olivers, so it depends where you are. Oliver has been in the top 10 for 22 year (and Olivia for 25 years), so he'll probably not be the only Oliver anywhere
Baby name explorer shows the popularity of the names.
