I wanted to call ds Sam.
I love Isaac. I already have a Jacob so had to scrap that one off my list!

AbbeyA · 17/06/2008 07:29

I love Samuel, Edward, Alexander and Daniel. Not too keen on Isaac and Ethan. Hate Harvey and Finlay.

Edward -- like it, but not so keen on its nicknames.
Samuel -- nice but very common these days (there are 4 in DD's reception class)
Alexander -- love it
Finlay -- nope. Don't really like it.
Harvey -- big no. reminds me of Jordan.
Daniel -- nice name. Calssic. Not too common.
Ethan -- love it. Great name.
Isaac -- hmmm... no. not really. No reason. Just don't really fancy it.

Edward - Strong and timeless with lots of nickanmes. This is my son's name, he's 13 and goes by Ed, which is very cool.
Samuel - OK if a tad boring
Alexander -See Edward
Finlay - Although I'm not a big fan of Finn names, I don't think they'll date. It's a new classic.
Harvey - This will date
Daniel - See Samuel
Ethan - Dated already
Isaac - OK

SoupKitchen · 17/06/2008 11:23

I love Daniel and Samuel - must have boring genes according to you lot.

Classic names, are just that classic not boring

cazzybabs · 17/06/2008 11:30

Thanks guys!
Out of interest can I ask what's wrong with Finlay and Harvey?
They keep cropping up most as the two people don't like.

i like

Alexander and Daniel

Nancy66 · 17/06/2008 11:46

Edward and Isaac would be my faves.

Ethan is the only one I really don't like - just sounds too american to me and it has become a bit chavvy I think.

Bucharest · 17/06/2008 11:47

Edward- A classic. Can't go wrong.
Samuel- You would invariably get Sam, so you need to think about that
Alexander- Another classic- used to be a bit posh, but now it's just lovely. You will get Alex though.
Finlay- not in the same league as the above.
Harvey- ditto Finlay
Daniel- Beautiful in its simplicity
Ethan- I can't get over the dreadful whiney voice that the woman who has an Ethan on Child of Our Time has. I am now incapable of saying it properly. I just use her whiney nasal tone, so that's spoilt it for me.
Isaac- This is a new classic- very much so.

In answer to your question about Finlay and Harvey- I'm sorry to say I find both a bit common. (in the not posh sense)

Nbg · 17/06/2008 11:47

My ds2 is Ethan so I'd have to say thats my favourite.

AbbeyA · 17/06/2008 11:59

I agree with Bucharest on Harvey and Finlay.
I also think they will date and are better names for pets. Finlay just makes me think of Dr Finlay's Casebook.

henrys7thwife · 17/06/2008 12:03

I really like Isaac but we already have an Isaiah and don't want to match. Not a fan of Ethan. Finlay - eh. Harvey - no way. Edward - don't like the sound of it. Samuel - like Sam, not fond of the 'mule' sound at the end. Alexander - do like it, but don't like the nickname Alex so wouldn't use it. Daniel - ok, but not a fan.

tortoiseSHELL · 17/06/2008 12:36

Edward - ok
Samuel - like
Alexander - like
Finlay - FINLAY the FIRE ENGINE
Harvey - sweet, but reminds me of Jordan
Daniel - my favourite on this list (ds1's name) - NOT boring, but strong! And also any shortenings are good - Dan or Danny
Ethan - quite like
Isaac - lovely name - means 'laughter'

ducknineteen · 17/06/2008 14:03

and daniel
