Stuck on a boy’s name!

My husband and I are due to have our second child, a baby boy, in 5 weeks and are still SO stuck on a name. We have very different tastes but have agreed on the below 4 (although I feel like I still don’t love any of them 😩):

Ellis
Sebastian
Rudy
Edward but would be known as Ted

What are people’s thoughts? We really need to get a move on 😂😂.

I found boys names so difficult! I like all of those but Sebastian is my favourite.

ArcticSkua · 28/02/2026 05:46

Edward is my favourite of these. Then Sebastian, Ellis, Rudy (in that order).

How about: Elliot, William, Toby, Nathan? I think they have a similar vibe to the ones you've mentioned.

DramaQueenlady · 28/02/2026 05:49

Timeless names
Michael
Joshua
Alexander
James

Myswweetchild · 28/02/2026 05:56

I like all, except Rudy.
I was going to suggest Elliot too.
Benjamin
Dominic
Tristan

All decent names. If you’re very unsure go classic. Less likely to regret. Edward is super classic.
Also agree Toby fits the same vibe.

Lollylavender · 28/02/2026 07:58

I only like Edward.

i hate Seb/Sebby (sebaceous) and Basty (bastard)

How about
William
Thomas
Quentin
Leonard
Caspar

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/02/2026 08:01

I like Edward and Rudy but the others are fine too.

simpledeer · 28/02/2026 08:02

I love Edward, known as Ted. Absolutely gorgeous!

After that, Sebastian, Ellis and Rudy in that order.

Bitzee · 28/02/2026 08:12

Edward is lovely. Ted is cute for a little one and also with Edward on the birth certificate he a few has options as he gets older. Sebastian I also like but I don’t love Seb which it’s often shortened too. Rudy sounds like rude and Ellis I think has become a girls name thanks to Greys Anatomy so not fans of those 2.

Sparklinggreen · 28/02/2026 12:21

Of these Sebastian is my favourite
but I don’t like Seb as nn

not keen on Rudy at all, somehow sounds insubstantial

Cocktailsandcheese · 28/02/2026 12:35

I dislike Rudy but the others are all fine. Edward/Ted is my favourite.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/02/2026 12:42

Edward - fab
However, parents do not chose nn's. Ours is only known as his chosen nn by us. His friends had other ideas.

swimfast · 28/02/2026 12:49

I love Ellis.
Similar names I also like:
Magnus,
Linus,
Elliot,
Edgar

CoffeeBeansGalore · 28/02/2026 12:55

I like Edward & Sebastian. Agree with pp, Ellis sounds more feminine, Elliot is nice. Not keen on Rudy.
A few suggestions
Rowan
Callum
Cameron
Peter
William

ginasevern · 28/02/2026 12:57

Can't go wrong with classic and timeless, so I'd go with Edward.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 28/02/2026 12:57

I like them all apart from Ellis. I have a cousin Rudiger, who is German and known as Rudy which is (I think) a nice longer version.

LlynTegid · 28/02/2026 13:03

Edward you have to accept could have one of a number of abbreviations.

Ellis would be my choice of the four.

JLB234 · 28/02/2026 13:17

Thank you for all of the suggestions and thoughts. Interesting that a few of you see Ellis as feminine! I always thought it was neutral but leaning towards male?

It’s actually Rüdiger. That will not work well in English unfortunately!

Norastroud · 28/02/2026 18:29

I really like Edward with Ned as a nn or Sebastian!

Grupon · 28/02/2026 18:32

Edward

Eenameenadeeka · 01/03/2026 06:28

From your list, Edward. Love Ted! I really like Edmund but I know that wasn't the options haha.
I think Ellis is nice too. I guess it sounds the same as Alice though, maybe why people see it as more feminine?

Pinknothere · 01/03/2026 08:38

I like Edward and Sebastian (not as keen on the nicknames).
What about Edwin, Toby or William.
There were two Ellis's in dc school both girls so I'm probably swayed by that.
