Lennon, Franklin or Maddox

These are our top runners, I have a clear favourite and so does DP but they’re different.

help us to sway one way, which do you like best? Which do you know more of?

Lennon is my fave but I do prefer the nickname Lenny (it’s one of my favourite boys names). Franklin and Maddox just feel a bit too American for my taste but I do like Frankie as a nickname.

@ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer , because if we all posted 'Awww there all gorgeous' it would be pointless to start a thread.

But the two questions were: what do you like the best and which do you know more of, that’s very different to saying “awww they’re all gorgeous”.

I don’t think any of them or gorgeous but I answered the asked question, that’s the point, surely?

Anyway, I’m sure the OP doesn’t care about our different interpretations of her thread!

hyggetyggedotorg · 18/02/2026 21:58

If I had to choose one of the three I would go with Franklin I think. Frankie is cute for a little boy.

I think Len/Lenny might age better - as in be better on a teenager or adult but I could never go with Lennon. Lennox maybe?

Maddox I ruled out because it will inevitably be shortened at some point and Mad, Mads, Maddi etc are girls names.

SeeTheSummerSunIsShining · 18/02/2026 21:59

Franklin

MirandaBlu · 18/02/2026 22:01

They're all "surname-as-first-name", I think, so people who don't like that style won't like any of them. Personally, I like Franklin best of these - although if you're deciding between Lennon and Maddox, Lennox could be a nice compromise.

(FWIW, in the US Lennon is more often used as a girls' name now, Maddox could go either way.)

KayEmAy · 18/02/2026 22:04

Maddox is my favorite, followed by Lennon

Willmoris · 18/02/2026 22:06

Is it for a boy or for a girl? I don't really like any of them full stop but I really don't like them as girls names.
Let's assume a boy: if I had to pick one I would go for Frank(lin) first Maddox second and Lennon last because I don't think you will ever get away from Beatles / Gallagher connections an I don't think either of them are very inspirational people to name your kid after. Chippy men who think they're a gift to the world.
PS Don't Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt have a Maddox? Or is it Madonna? Somoeone famous does.

YourWinter · 18/02/2026 22:07

Poor kid. They’re all dreadful.

Nothingeverlastsforever · 18/02/2026 22:09

Lennon is a really popular boys name around my way, but it’s after Neil Lennon a Celtic rather than John. I like it, and I also like Franklin

I like Madoc.
Maddog sounds rabid.

Because I was typing on my phone and added in an extra 'd' with my sausage fingers! Madog - it's the name of a Welsh prince. Think of Ruth Madoc - same root.

Giraffehaver · 18/02/2026 22:31

My order would be
Lennon because I like Lenny
Maddox
Franklin (so many Franks and Frankies here)

NamingNoNames · 18/02/2026 22:39

@ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer , I gave OP an answer that I thought might help. I quite like Maddox but wouldn't use it as a first name due to possible shortenings. I do quite like Lenny/Len and Frank.

I don't really find any names gorgeous.

wandawaves · 18/02/2026 22:43

None of them, sorry.

shoopshoopdedoo · 18/02/2026 22:46

I don’t like any of them, but I love Frank and I like Len/Lenny. So, Franklin or Lennon would be my picks.

everypageisempty · 18/02/2026 22:49

Lennon (Lenny) or Maddox (which will become Maddog from his mates when he's older no doubt)

I'm not keep on Franklin (Frank); never have been.

MrsKateColumbo · 18/02/2026 22:49

None of them, however I really like Frank, and to a lesser extent Lenny so would advise just the nicknames

Thelondonone · 18/02/2026 22:52

Mad ox-no Lennon-unless John or yoko-no Franklin, unless you live in an American state-no. Please don’t do any of these to your poor child. They have to live with them…

Pettenell · 19/02/2026 04:18

Maddox is my favourite. However if it was Frank, not Franklin, that would be way out in front. I love Frank, don't like Franklin.

I like Lennox, not so much Lennon.

LittleRoom · 19/02/2026 04:23

Lennon - the abuser John Lennon
Maddox - never heard this, think it sounds horrible
Franklin - I don't love this but I don't hate it. Too American sounding. I do know a Franklin who's a lovely young man. Definitely the best of the three by a long way.

user1492757084 · 19/02/2026 07:07

Franklin is my favourite.

Len is lacking some what and Mad is not what I want my child to be called.

Similar ..
Dominic
Leonard
Leon
Max
Clement
Friso
Mannix

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 19/02/2026 07:15

I don’t like any of them. If I had to chose one it would be Franklin. I don’t know any Franklins. I really dislike Maddox. Lennon will forever be John Lennon and I assume your child will get asked if its parents were fans.

Avantiagain · 19/02/2026 07:41

Franklin is the best of the three. I like Len/Lenny but not Lennon.

Instructions · 19/02/2026 07:45

Lennon, but I would assume it was a Beatles tribute

Eenameenadeeka · 19/02/2026 08:19

I like them in the order you listed. I know a Lennon who goes by Lennie which is super super cute. Lots of cute nicknames for Franklin too.

RedToothBrush · 19/02/2026 08:23

Hate Maddox. The nickname options are terrible.

Not wild on Lennon. Lemon. And I'd think you were an Oasis fan or a try hard Beatles fan and not in a good way (I like both a lot but just no).

Franklin I like though.
