Jasper, Elliot or Arthur?

Baby boy is due in three days and we can’t narrow it down any further…please help!

Arthur is a family name so has significance, but I’m worried about popularity and “Arfur”.

I like Jasper the most, but dislike Jas/Jaz. Generally I’d avoid shortening but I don’t mind El as much, so Elliot seems safer?

With DS1 we waited until he was born as we thought he would obviously suit one, but he just looked like a baby and it took us a week to decide. I found it quite stressful so really want to have one picked out this time!

What about Casper?

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 06/02/2026 16:19

We’ve got a Jasper. It’s hardly ever shortened

user2848502016 · 06/02/2026 16:20

I like Arthur best - it really depends where you live, in my area it wouldn’t be pronounced “Arfur”!

I also really like Jasper and have never heard it shortened to Jas, like PPs suggestion of Casper too, Cas is a nice nn

IAxolotlQuestions · 06/02/2026 16:20

Jasper. No-one shortens it. Tend to end up with a really random nickname instead from some event or 'just because'.

GoldenRosebee · 06/02/2026 16:21

I would use Arthur - I care about popularity but it's such magical name I don't really care in Arthur case. That said, this isn't only name I like. I do like Jasper, and Elliot is ok, but I like Arthur best of these three.

midlifeattheoasis · 06/02/2026 16:34

I love Arthur

Thatcannotberight · 06/02/2026 16:45

I like Elliott best of those. Jasper is either a cat in a children's book , or a regional word for a wasp.

LittleGreenDuck · 06/02/2026 16:46

Jasper is a great name, I've never heard it shortened.

Cocktailsandcheese · 06/02/2026 16:55

Elliot and Arthur are my favourites, I don't really like Jasper

Firebird83 · 06/02/2026 17:05

Jasper. I love Arthur but it’s very overused at the moment. Not keen on Elliot.

CrystalSingerFan · 06/02/2026 17:15

Another vote for Arthur.

I also like the fact that German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (Will and Representation, etc.) was named "Arthur" specifically because his merchant father knew it was spelled identically in multiple European languages — primarily German, French, and English. Very cosmopolitan.

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/02/2026 18:36

i love Arthur - I know it’s popular but I still love it!

PeoniesAreMyFavouriteFlowers · 06/02/2026 18:47

Jasper

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 06/02/2026 18:48

Elliot. I don't like Arthur at all. Jasper is OK.

PolarGear · 06/02/2026 18:50

Love - Arthur
Don't mind - Elliot
Dislike - Jasper

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 06/02/2026 20:22

I don't like jasper. Do like Arthur. Really like Elliot.

Grizelina · 06/02/2026 21:29

As a new nanny to an Arthur born 9 weeks early, guess which I’ll vote for? Definately don’t like Jasper ( google Jasper Carrott) and Elliott is not for me. Arthur means bear, bear like, strong/courageous. Choose which name you like - you may want to wait until he’s here as many people change their preferred name after their birth experience.

Northcoastmama · 06/02/2026 21:52

We have a Jasper and I still love it two years on, no one shortens it apart from us, occasional, to J

ladyamy · 06/02/2026 21:56

Elliot.

WoahThreeAces · 06/02/2026 21:57

Oh I love the name Jasper! Such a great name.
I work in Early Years and there are sooooo many Arthurs! If that doesn't worry you then great, and obviously lots of people love the name which is why they all chose it 😊 (my son has a top 20 name so I am not against popular names, but I know some people are)
But I would chose Jasper 😊

AlwaysRightISwear · 06/02/2026 22:24

I love Jasper.

mumwithallthebooks · 06/02/2026 23:01

Arthur's my favourite, but Elliot has grown on me too. Not keen on Jasper.

Giraffehaver · 06/02/2026 23:24

Jasper is a great name. We call ours Jazz Jazzy Jazzypants. He doesn't mind cos he's a dog

QuickPeachPoet · 06/02/2026 23:26

Like Arthur
Don't like Elliot
Jasper reminds me of a pet for some reason.

CastlesinSpain · 06/02/2026 23:30

Must be my age, but Jasper always reminds me of of the song "Oh Sir Jasper do not touch me".
