Just for fun, any names you’re suddenly hearing more of and expect to climb the ranks when the ONS data is released? My predictions to climb are Elodie, Eloise, Esme, Maeve, Margot, Sylvie, Marigold (Goldie), Daphne, Albert / Albie, Sidney, Sonny, Rowan…

Mavis and Edna.

I met a baby Ethel last week. I can see that rising as it's very Granny Chic".

I absolutely agree with Sylvie. I think I've seen it suggested quite a lot on here.

Calliopespa · 06/02/2026 16:47

I think Margot and Maeve have definitely had their moment and are on the way down again.

They were unfashionable for a time then the ones I know are mostly about 10-14 years old now.

Ditto Eloise and Elodie.

Ottilie and Ophelia - they seem to have exploded recently and hit that stage where people think they’re classy and posh and so they become quite common (as in popular).

HoorayHattie · 06/02/2026 17:15

Rio ~ I keep hearing this name!

And Amalia ~ it seems like parents have got a bit fed up with Amelia & Amelie and have hit on the Dutch name

amy480 · 06/02/2026 17:16

I forgot about these! I only know one of each though (at the moment).

Octavia, Violet, Astrid, Nelly, Adeline, Viola, Juniper, Maude. Vivienne

Sage, River, Heath, Edwin, John, Bartholomew, Ezra, Mateo.

I think granny names, then the 50's will start to come back and we will have a return of Jacqueline, Steven etc.

I also think people are more comfortable to use names which may not represent their heritage so the diversity of names and spellings will alter.
