Who knew girls names were so hard

We recently found out we were having a girl, and to say the names are going to be a struggle to narrow down is an understatement!!

Im very much into American country/western vibes, and for boys names I had it narrowed down to Mason or Wyatt. But can I get a girls name that I like.

Anything country themed for girls seems to be like Charlotte, or Delilah, and they aren't doing it for me.

I had thought of Reba Mae or Jessie (after Jesse James 🤠) Mae but I'm just not sure.

Unisex names like Sawyer or Oakleigh is out of the question as my partner is adamant they are boys names, which I kinda get.

Has anyone ever thought along these lines? Has anyone any suggestions I might not of heard of?

I really like Reba! Would Mae be the middle name or are you suggesting going for a double first name? I think Reba is nice on its own - seems familiar but still unusual. I just checked the 2024 name data for England and Wales and it doesn't show so less than 3 or none born that year. That's the one I would definitely go for.

I do love this one actually

Please don't call your daughter Tennessee l-Belle, you'll be setting her up for a life time of bullying especially if she has to go to a secondary school in the UK.

Reba Pearl would sound more classier than Reba Mae as Mae is so common. Don't double barrell it so your dd has options to use the full or first name only when she's older. I don't think double barrelled first names work as well in the UK as they do in the US.

I know an Emma-Louise, which she hates but is stuck with as her mum is still alive. I suspect she'll go by Emma once her mum passes away.

No I don't think I ever would go with something like that, because of bullying etc. but I do love it!

I had 5 years of bullying, and my name is Paige. Alot more common now than it was when I was in school.

So I am taking into account whether a name can be used by bullies 🙂 I'm probably wayyyy overthinking that bit too, but I know kids can be mean

Dolly is awful. Sorry.

My list inspired by Dallas and Dynasty (TV shows in the 1980's):

Lucy
Kristin
Ellie
Jamie
Jenna
April
Callie
Stephanie
Krystle
Fallon
Sammy Jo
Sable

I always feel that inserting a 'Jo' or a '-Jo' sounds very American.

Pyjamatimenow · 05/02/2026 11:22

Bit wary of gimmicky names. She may hate you for it. I do like goldie though. It was on my list

miniaturepixieonacid · 05/02/2026 13:11

I love Jessie. I don't think I would go with Jessie Mae as it sounds very like Jessie J.

Reba is pretty. I haven't heard it before.

Like previous suggestions of Savannah and Dakota. I knew an extended family once who had these two names for cousins and also 2 other girl cousins called Atlanta and Sydney.

I also read a book with a character called Alaska which I like. And another one with a Tallahassee but I think that's probably a bit much!

Some of these might not meet your huband's 'no unisex names' requirement but I think of them all as feminine and quite American sounding:
Avery, Aubrey, Amberley, Addison, Alison, Angel, Asha, Brynn, Dana, Dina, Everley, Ember, Fallon, Giana, Gina, Harley, Halle, Harmony, Harper, Indianna, Joelle, Janie, Jennifer, Kendall, Leonie, Leona, Marley, Marnie, Mimi, Misty, Melinda, Nora, Nova, Piper, Quinn, Remy, Romy, Reeva, Roxanne, Rosina, Rowena, Stella, Saffron, Sorrel, Sadie, Skylar, Star, Tiana, Tallulah, Vivi, Veda
